DIED

TER STEGE – At her home, No. 989 Lucas street, Sunday, April 16th, 1893, at 10:30 p. m., MRS. BERNADINA TER STEGE, aged about 80 years.

On the afternoon of the 4th inst., deceased was burning some rubbish in her yard, when her clothing caught fire and she was fearfully burned before assistance arrived. Since that date she has suffered excruciating agony and the final summons was indeed welcomed by the brave sufferer as it released her soul from its earthly tenement of pain to waft it to a haven of eternal rest and peace.

Mrs. Ter Stege was a native of Holland where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage. In 1852 with her husband she emigrated to America, locating in Muscatine and here she resided continuously ever since. Her husband preceded her to the unknown bourne forty years ago.

Three children mourn her demise, they being John, Herman, and Mrs. Henry Strake, all of this city. The funeral is appointed to take place this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Dutch Reformed church on Lucas street, of which deceased was an earnest and devoted member.---April 1893 (hand written)
