DIED HICKEY – Thursday, February 2, at his home in Wilton township, of appoplexy, WILLIAM HICKEY, aged 66 years, 4 months, and 11 days.
The sudden death of this highly respected resident of Muscatine county was a great shock to his family, as well as to his many friends and acquaintances. He had been enjoying his usual health this winter and was out and around the farm on Wednesday. He was stricken with apoplexy while sitting in his chair and died within thirty minutes.
Mr. Hickey was born in County Dublin, Ireland, in 1826, where he grew to manhood. He emigrated to the United States when a young man, settling in Orange county, New York, where he lived several years. In 1857 he came to Muscatine county, where he had since resided, most of the time engaged in farming in Wilton township. He was united in marriage in Davenport in 1869. Besides the bereaved widow he is survived by seven children. They are: Mrs. J. M. Doran, of Muscatine; Nellie, Josephine, May, Anastasia, James and William, residing at home.
Mr. Hickey was the last of his family two brothers, who emigrated to America with him, having preceded him in death. One brother died several years ago, the other on February 2, 1892, just one year before Mr. Hickey.
