An Old Resident Passes Away.
Sep 23 – 1892 (hand written)

HENRY BECHMAN, an old and respected resident of this city, died at his home on Cedar street extension yesterday afternoon at 4:45 o’clock, after a year’s painful illness with diabetis, aged 60. Mr. Bechman was a stone mason by trade and was widely known and esteemed hereabouts as an honest and industrious citizen. He was a native of Saxony, but came to this country forty years ago and traveled extensively before locating in Muscatine, which has been his continuous residence for many years. At the breaking out of the civil war he was one of the brave men to enlist and fight for the cause of union, and was honorably discharged after four years of service. Socially Mr. Bechman was a member of the Knights of Honor, and politically he always affiliated with the democracy. His departure is mourned by his wife and six children, three sons, the issue of his first marriage, Henry Bechman, of Battle Creek, Mich., William and Louis, of Chicago, a daughter, Miss Ida Bechman, and two stepdaughter, Mrs. Wm. Zimmer, of Milwaukee, and Miss Alma Koerner, at home.

The time of the funeral has not yet been appointed.
