DIED,

At her home in Sweetland township, Saturday, Sept. 17, 1892, of dysentery and old age, PATIENCE A. Adams, wife the late John SHERFEY, aged 74 years, 9 months, and 13 days.

The above announcement will be read with regret by the friends of the deceased throughout the city and county. The deceased was born in Ross county, Ohio, where she spent her childhood, and on March 31, 1837, she was united in marriage with the late Major John Sherfey. They came to Iowa and Muscatine county the same year, locating at Wyoming. Three years later they removed to the farm in Sweetland township, where the deceased had since resided. It will noted that in Mrs. Sherfey’s death one of the earliest settlers has passed away, her residence in Muscatine county having covered a period of fifty-five years.

Mrs. Sherfey had been for many years a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. She is survived by five children: Georgia M., wife of D.S. Parker, of Chicago; Niles, of this county; Alice M., wife of James Graham, of Woodstock, Ills; Louise C., wife of A.E. Van Camp, of Highmore, S.D. and Eldridge R., of this county.

The funeral is appointed for Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock, from the family residence in Sweetland township. Interment in the city cemetery.
