OBITUARY.

Died, at her late residence in Lake township, Muscatine county, Iowa. March 12, 1899, SARAH BUMGARDNER. Thus ends the life of one who had for a long time been identified with Muscatine history. She was born in Bath Co., Va., June 15, 1806, and was married to the late George Bumgardner in 1829. She came with her husband to what is now Muscatine, Iowa, in 1837 and for fifty years after coming here, she was permitted to live and see the wonderful growth and development of this country. Mrs. Bumgardner was one of seven to organize the First M.E. church of this city, which is the oldest M.E. society in the county. Her religious life covered a period of seventy-one years, and she was deeply devoted to her church and to the cause of the Master. She was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom are living, the husband and father having died twenty years since.

The relatives present at the funeral were one brother, Davis Rider, of Stuart, Iowa, three daughters and a number of grandchildren.

The funeral service was held on March 14th at the High Prairie church, conducted by Rev. J.A. Sinclair, assisted by Rev. J.F. Robertson. A large number of friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
