MRS. SUSAN BEAUMONT
July 13th 1889 (hand written)

A dispatch announcing the death of Mrs. Susan Beaumont was received yesterday by Mr. E. H. Dolsen from Luke Sells, of St. Louis. The latter is a son-in-law of the deceased, and it was at his home that Mrs. B. breathed her last. She was an early settler in this city, coming with her family in the year 1837. Thirty-eight years later she moved to St. Louis. The remains will be transported to Muscatine for burial, arriving on the 10:50 train. The funeral service will be conducted at the residence of E. H. Dolsen, 211 Pine street, this afternoon at 4 o’clock. Deceased will be remembered by many as a sister of Mrs. Thurston.

In Memoriam.

Sister Beaumont has left us to join the innumerable company of the blood-washed in the mansions above. Most lovely and courteous in all her daily walk, it can most truly be said of her that she adorned her profession by a well ordered life and conversation; and that “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely and of good report” were the kind that she delighted in and enjoyed. And although most feelingly mingling our tears and sympathy with mourning friends we are all glad and thankful that grace enables one to live so useful and helpful a life, so void of offense, and so exemplary in every way; so steadfast and true to all the finer instincts of humanity, leaving with us a most cherished and precious memory.

Sister, thou was mild and lovely,
Gentle as the summer breeze,
Pleasant as the air of evening
When it floats among the trees.

Dearest sister, thou hast left us!
Here thy loss we deeply feel,
But ‘tis God that hath bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.

Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is fled.
Then in heaven, with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed.
