DIED,

At the residence, No. 601 West Third street, Muscatine, Monday, June 4th, at 6 a.m., Mrs. GERTRUDE HERRICK LANE, wife of L. L. Lane, of typhoid fever, aged 31 years, 9 months and 14 days. For the past six weeks the deceased had been seriously ill and for a week past the announcement of her death had been almost hourly expected.

Mrs. Lane was born in New York, but since 3 years of age had lived in Iowa. She was married to L. L. Lane on June 28th, 1874, at Blue Grass, Iowa, and had resided ever since in Muscatine. She is survived by her husband, four children, three girls and one boy, the latter 2 years of age, her parents, living near Lettsville, and brothers and sisters at Fairfield and Sigourney, Iowa. Her mother and step-daughter, Mrs. W. E. Nichalous, of Joliet, were with her at the time of her death. Other relatives have been telegraphed for.

Mrs. Lane was an earnest and consistent member of the First M. E. church. She was beloved greatly by her friends and held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. She was as active in church and Sunday School work as her health and home cares would permit, and ever willing and glad to do all she could in every good work. As a wife and mother naught but the highest praise could be said of her and her loss will be grievously felt.

The funeral services will be held at the house on Wednesday morning at 8 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. G. Wilson. The remains will be taken to Wilton for interment where already lie two of her little babes.
