Old Settlers’ Meeting.

A large number of the old settlers assembled at the City Hall pursuant to notice, to take action on the death of JOSEPH CRANE and ELIZABETH H. TEWKSBURY.

The President, J. P. Walton, called the meeting to order. On motion, D. S. Biles was appointed secretary.

Remarks were made by J. P. Walton, J. Scott Richman, J. J. Hoopes and D. C. Cloud.

On motion of D. C. Cloud, J. Scot Richman, Wm. Gordon and J. P. Walton were appointed a committee to draft resolutions on the death of Joseph Crane and Elizabeth H. Tewksberry.

The committee reported the following, which were adopted:

RESOLUTIONS.

    WHEREAS, In the death of our friend and brother we experience the loss of one of the pioneers of the county; one who saw the beginning and has witnessed with pride the growth of the State, and who contributed his share to its rapid development; therefore, be it

    Resolved, That by his death, not only his friends and relations and his widowed companion, but the State and the county as well have suffered our irreparable loss. That he was an honest man, just to all, appreciative of the rights of all; a man who always did his duty promptly and fearlessly; one whose place will be hard to fill and whose familiar face will be missed by all who knew him. That we give our condolence to his widow and assure her that we deeply sympathize with her in her great loss.

    WHEREAS, Mrs. E. H. Tewskbury, another old settler, has recently died, leaving a gap in our circle which will remain vacant for a long time with her relatives and acquaintances; therefore be it

    Resolved, That we tender our heartfelt sympathy and condolence to her relatives in their great loss and that a copy of this preamble and resolution be placed on our minutes.
