DEATH OF MRS. SETH HUMPHREYS. Mary Jarboe Humphreys died at her home near this city this morning at 7 o’clock. Deceased had lived so retired a life at her beautiful home on the Iowa City road, that the above announcement will be a shock to all but her most intimate circle, who have known of her long and painful illness.
Mrs. Humphreys was the daughter of Mr. J.M. Jarboe, was moved with his family from Warsaw, Ills., to this city in 1849. She was married to Mr. Seth Humphreys about 1853, and were her health declined their home was one of the most delightful social resorts in Muscatine. Deceased shared with her husband in musical tastes and accomplishments and both have been foremost in encouraging that Culte in our city. She was also prominent in her patronage of the women’s department of our County Agricultural society and its fairs, and could always be depended on for faithful service on its committees. Her Christian faith was equally a potential motor in her life, her membership of Trinity Episcopal church being marked for its efficiency and example.
The last days of deceased were comforted by the presence of her two sisters, Mrs. Laura Bailey, of Chanute, Kas., and Mrs. Wilkenson, of the same state.
The funeral is appointed for 11 o’clock a.m., Monday, from the residence.
