THEODORE BECKE
DIED

At his residence in Muscatine, December 21, 1884, at 1 p.m., of Bight’s disease, Theodore BECKE, age 76 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Deceased was born in Neuenkirchen in Hulsen, Prussia, Ger., December 25, 1807. He came to Muscatine the 21st of May, 1842. The population of our city was then something like 500 inhabitants; the place as nature had made it unsightly with its hills and hollows and it was his fortune to see the place change its aspect and become the beautiful city it now is. He was the oldest Catholic settler of Muscatine and worshipped in that old frame building as soon as it had been moved on 2d and Cedar streets from the raft which brought it down from Prairie du Chien. He leaves a widow and six children: Mrs. Joseph Fessier, Mrs. Wm. Richards, Mrs. Geo. Koebler, Mrs. Charles Balluff. Mrs Lizile Becke and Theodore Becke.
