In Memoriam

The Old Settlers committee appointed to draft resolutions in memory of the late JOHN ZIEGLER, reported the following:

WHEREAS, In the death of John Ziegler we are called on to record the death of another prominent pioneer settler, who explored the west in 1839 and selected Muscatine as his permanent home, and moved his family from Pennsylvania here in the spring of 1840, since which time he has resided with us, therefore be it

Resolved, That while it is with deep sorrow that we are called on to part with so valuable citizen, it is with pleasure that we recount his many years of honest and faithful service as a friend and neighbor and as a citizen who has helped to make this city, county and State so prominent in its high position in religion, morals and laws. The Old Settlers’ Society feel and mourn the loss of so prominent a member.

Resolved, That we hereby tender our sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased.
