FIRST MARRIAGE OF A MUSCATINE COUNTY COUPLE

Hand written entry:

The first marriage of a Muscatine County young couple was that of John P. Cooper to Winnie Jane Pace both of Montpelier Twp in December 1836. As there was no way of being legally married on the west side of the river they went to Rock Island Co., Ills to have the ceremony performed but their residence both before and after marriage was in Montpelier Twp.

The first white person who died at Bloomington, now Muscatine was Mrs. Casey and the first boarding house was kept by J.G. Coleman in 1836. Meals 50 ct.
