STATE OF IOWA TEACHERS CONTRACT

This contract was that of her mother's.

    THIS AGREEMENT, entered into by and between the teacher whose name is subscribed hereto and Board of Directors of the Sub-district No. 5 School District of Wapsie, State of Iowa.

     WITNESSETH. That s salary according to the grade of your certificate Eighty Five Dollars
per school month, the same to be aid at the end of each month, the aforesaid teacher hereby agrees to well and faithfully perform the duties of teacher in said District according to law and the rules legally established for the government thereof, to faithfully instruct and impartially govern all pupils who may attend said school; to keep a daily record and prepare all reports as required by the Board of Directors; and to exercise due diligence in the preservation of ALL property belonging to the District, such as schoolhouse, furniture, flag, apparatus and such other property as may reasonably come within the limits of such supervision for a term of 34 weeks commencing on the 6 day of Sept., 1926.

     And it is further agreed;

     (a) That said teacher is not at this date under contract with any other school district.

     (b) That said teacher will register a valid certificate according to law with County Superintendent before any part of salary is drawn.

     In consideration of said services, the President of the Board, to behalf of the said District, hereby agrees that the schoolhouse and other buildings shall be kept in good repair and in proper condition for the maintenance of the comfort and health of the teacher and pupils that the school shall be provided with a suitable flag and flag staff in compliance with School Laws of Iowa; and that said teacher shall be provided with fuel, furniture, school records, apparatus and such other fixtures and supplies as ae necessary for best interests of the school.

     Provided: That in case the certificate of said teacher shall be legally revoked, or shall expire during the term of school designated by this contract or the teacher be legally dismissed by the Board of Directors then said teacher shall not be entitled to compensation after said dismissal, revocation or expiration of such certificate. Provided further, that the wages of said teacher for the last month of the school term shall not be paid unless said teacher shall have made the report for the school term as required by law.

     IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, We have hereunto subscribed our names this 5th day of May, 1926.

    Note – This contract should be made out in duplicate. One copy should be given to the teacher, and one should be filed with the Secretary of the Board. No Board should allow a teacher to commence a term until a written contract is properly signed by both parties. All agreements should be in writing.

TEACHER’S MINIMUM SALARY SCALE

     By action of the 38th General Assembly of Iowa, the old “Teacher’s Minimum Wage Scale” was repealed and a new Minimum Salary Scale is made effective. The minimum salary to paid in Iowa under the new law is determined by Certification, Training and Experience.

     The school district can not legally pay less than minimum given in the following scale. The teacher - - - print too worn to read - - - not limit the board from paying more than the scale. School boards where possible should pay their teachers more than the minimum required according to circumstances and special qualifications. The scale is as follows:

Graduates of Four Year Course in an Approved College with Iowa State Certificate or Iowa State Diploma.

Minimum until First Two Years experience $100.00 per month
Minimum after First Two Years Sucessful experience $120.00 per month

Graduates of Two Year Normal Course with Diploma or Equivalent and Who Hold Iowa State Certificate.

Minimum until First Two Years experience $80.00 per month
Minimum after First Two Years Sucessful experience $100.00 per month

Holders of Iowa State Certificate Secured by Examination

Minimum until First Two Years experience $80.00 per month
Minimum after First Two Years Sucessful experience $100.00 per month

High School Normal Training Cerfificates of Iowa

Minimum until One Years experience $66.00 per month
Minimum after First Two Years experience $75.00 per month
Minimum after First Two Years Sucessful experience $80.00 per month

First Grade Uniform County Certificates of Iowa

Minimum until First Two Years experience $75.00 per month
Minimum after First Two Years Sucessful experience $80.00 per month

(The prelimary experience required in all cases may be gained on any grade of certificate and on provinsional certificates in some cases.)

Second Grade Uniform County Certificates of Iowa

Minumum until One Years experience $60.00 per month
Minimum after First Year Sucessful experience $65.00 per month

Third Grade Uniform County Certificates of Iowa

Minimum Salary $50.00 per month

PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATES

     Holders of Provisional Certificates when needed, will receive salaries based upon conditions and circumstances under which employed, to be mutually agreeable. The County Superintendent should be consulted as no Provisional Certificate can be issued without the consent of the Coounty Superintendent. The statute does not mention provisional certificates, nor uniform county special certificates.

TEACHERS MUST FURNISH PROOF OF SUCCESSFUL TEACHING EXPERINECE

     The experience called for under this law must be certified to by the County Superintendent before the teacher qualifies for the minimum wage covering such experience.
