Muscatine Evening Journal, Wednesday, June 25, 1884: Sweetland Notes. - Sweetland, Friday June 20, 1884. The children will long remember the last day of their summer school at Sweetland. Miss Anna Agar, the teacher, assisted by the patrons of the school, arranged a surprise picnic for the children. They brought their dinners as usual and at noon the teacher told them, as it is the last day of school we will go into Heinly's orchard and eat dinner together. What was their surprise when they reached the place to find a long table spread with choice viands and their parents there ready to receive them. After disposing of a quantity of lemonade, ice cream, nuts, candies, cakes, etc., they listened to a nice little address by their pastor, Rev. Norton. The little ones spoke some nice little pieces and then went home. Let us have more of these little gatherings and make the little ones happy.

Miss Lollie Agar has engaged the Melpine school for the ensuing winter term at $45 per month. That is an intelligent community where they have a good school, and good house and appreciate the services of a good teacher.
