Muscatine Evening Journal, Tuesday, July 5, 1887 page 2: A Gala Day at Cedarville. - July 1st, school children could be seen coming in all directions decked in gay apparel, for that day closed Miss Clara Federlein's school. By noon a number of the parents and friends had gathered there, when a tale was spread under the trees in the yard and all partook of the good things the valley can produce. Then we listened to some very nice recitations and songs by the school, all doing credit to themselves and teacher. Miss Federlein then distributed her tokens of remembrance amongst her pupils and asked if any one had anything to say when one pupil stepped forward and in a neat little speech presented her with a very handsome silver cake stand and napkin ring, a gift from the pupils and patrons of the district. All had a pleasant day and went away hoping to have many more such in the future.
