18 Cited for High Grades at Commencement

Eighteen of the 64 rural school pupils who received graduation certificates Thursday night at Muscatine high school were named to the honor roll for scholastic achievement.

Diplomas were presented to the graduates by Lindley B. Hoopes, member of the Muscatine county board of education, Frank Ralston, county superintendent of schools, pointed out that the honor graduates attained a 3.8 grade average, , made a 10.2 average on Iowa basic tests, and 11.7 average in the Stanford achievement tests.

Honor roll members are Leroy Brewer, Jane Awbrey, Jean Christensen, Jerry Henning, Jean Shepard, Karl Gleaves, John Macon, Dennis Rensink, Jr., Thomas Windman, Wayne French, Ruth Hackman, John Hitchcock, Neil Hitchcock, Kenneth Kennedy, Normajean Landon, Sheila Furlong, Mary Beth Lee and Judy Thomas.

Fourteen pupils who received honorable mention for scholarship are John Everhart, Judith Krueger, Renee Coyner, Larry Oetting, Bonita Nitzel, Margaret Paul, Arnold Ziebarth, Jerry Kretschmar, Sharon Ripnerger, Judith berry, Jean Halling, Joan Jewett, Jane Peterson and Doris Stecher. Their grades averaged 3.4.

The program was the 51st annual graduation for common schools of the county. The event closed with the 35th annual concert of the rural school chorus. It was the most well attended of all such programs for the rural schools.
