Submitted by Phyllis Hazen, June 4, 2019Pike Township Board To Sell Three Schools The Pike township school board will sell three rural school buildings on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 29, it was announced today by E. D. Bradley, county superintendent of schools.
The structures, all to be sold at public auction scheduled at one hour intervals during the afternoon, have been out of use for some time and are no longer needed for school purposes. Sale of the buildings was authorized by Pike township voters.
The buildings to be disposed of are the Wild Rose No. 4 school northwest of Nichols, the Buffalo Bluff No. 5 schoolhouse and shed west of Nichols, and the Willow Grove No. 8 schoolhouse southwest of Nichols.
The Wild Rose building will be auctioned, beginning at 1 p.m.; the Buffalo Bluff Building at 2 p.m.; and the Willow Grove school at 3 p.m. Slate blackboards, desks and movable school equipment will be retained by the school board.
Will R. Schmitt, secretary of the Pike township school board, will receive sealed bids on the buildings up to 11 a.m. on the day of the sale. Oral bids will be received at each of the three public auctions and the buildings will be sold to the persons placing the highest oral or written bids.
All of the buildings are of frame construction. The Wild Rose structure is 24 by 23 feet, has an annex, 12 by 20 feet, and is equipped with a furnace in the basement. To be sold along with the Buffalo Bluff school, a building 25 by 28 feet, will be a pony shed. That Willow Grove building is the same size as the Wild Rose school and has an annex 10 by 20 feet. Only the Wild Rose school has a basement.
Immediate possession will be given by the board which reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
