Terms Will Open Sept. 4Several changes are to be made in the teaching staff of the three Muscatine parochial schools, St. Mathias, St. Mary’s and Zion Lutheran School will open Sept. 4 at all three schools, coinciding with the opening of Muscatine public schools.
New Instructors Two new high school teachers and one new grade instructor will come to St. Mary’s high school. They are Sister Modista, English teacher who comes from La Crosse, Wis., to replace Sister Claudine and Sister Carolyn, music instructor for St. Rose convent at LaCrosse who replaces Sister Teresilda.
Journalism will be offered as a new course at St. Mary’s this year. Seniors and juniors are eligible for the course, which will be taught by Sister Modista.
A school monthly paper, to be named “The Marian Star,” will be inaugurated this year.
Teaching Staff. An increased enrollment is expected at St. Mary’s. Others of the teaching staff are: Sister Rosaria, science and history; Father Leo Keubrich, Latin and ethics; Sister Petina, commerce and mathematics; Sister Philomene, seventh and eighth grades; Sister Lorenza, fifth and sixth grades; Sister Orine, first and second grades.
Only one change is to be made in the teaching staff of St. Mathias school. Sister Mary Cecilia will be a new instructor in the high school.
There will be a new principal at Zion Lutheran school this year, Herbert Grebing of Altenburg, Mo., replacing Miss Lydia Adix who has resigned.
Miss Helena Daugs, who has been spending the summer at her home at Winona., Ia., will return as teacher of the lower grades.
The Rev. John Haefner is superintendent, and teaches the confirmation classes.
