FLAMES DESTROY OLD SCHOOL IN NICHOLS AREA

Nichols – The old Buffalo Bluffs school, one of the three remaining country school buildings in the Nichols community, was destroyed by fire Tuesday.

The building, owned by Bob Kirkpatrick, was occupied by the Gerald Koch family. Koch, who is unemployed, and his wife and four children were in Muscatine at the time of the fire.

The Nichols fire department almost had the blaze under control when its 250 gallon water truck ran out of water. Cause of the fire was unknown.

Members of the Nichols Community club are organizing a drive for clothing and furniture for the family. The Koch children are one, two, three and six years old.

The Nichols fire department was called at about 12:30 a.m. today to a car fire about a mile and one-half north of Nichols. The car which was destroyed was owned by Jim Jensen, nephew of Gerald Koch.
