CLASS OF 1945 The junior class of ’43-’44 has had a very successful year. Because it was the high school’s largest class, the juniors have taken a very active part in all of the school’s activities.
Ten students were enrolled in the class at the first of the year. They were: Stephen Hobbs (president), Marilyn Wold (sec.-treas.), Shirley Miller (president replacing Stephen), Marie McBroom, Dick Miller (student council), Raymond Oepping (student council), Donald Passmore, Edwin White, Calvin Schmidt, and Rodney Hadley. (Two members, Marie McBroom and Stephen Hobbs, moved away during the year. Dick Miller joined the Navy during the second semester, also.)
The juniors presented a play, “Lady Spitfire” which was a great success. The Junior-Senior Banquet was sponsored by this class with the profits from the play.
All of the juniors have participated in athletics. The three girls, Shirley, Marie, and Marilyn, were on the girls’ basketball squad, and the following boys were on the boys’ squad: Calvin Schmidt, Dick Miller, Stephen Hobbs, and Raymond Oepping. All of the junior boys in school during the seasons were on the kittenball and baseball team.
The two cheer leaders chosen from this class were Marilyn Wolf and Raymond Oepping.
The class also was patriotic by buying a large amount of war bonds and stamps.

The Sophomores gave a roller skating party for the junior and senior high school. Everyone who didn’t know how to skate, learned. Did they hit the spot on a cool night!! Cocoa and cookies were served as refreshments.
Delores and Erma took part in the junior play and a community club play—“Seeing Double”.
Eleanor and Erma played on the girls’ basketball team and Ronald on the boys’ basketball squad. Ronald also played on the kittenball and baseball teams.
CLASS OF 1947 This year the ninth grade consists of eight students. The members of the class are: Delbert Phillips (president), Richard Ervin (sec.-treas.), Joyce Garvin (student council), Laurine Burns, Shirley Schmidt, Virgil Noll, Harold Noll, and Donald Babcock (who started during the second semester).
During the basketball season the entire class participated in games. Shirley Schmidt, Joyce Garvin, and Laurine Burns played on the girls’ basketball squad. Shirley also served as the team’s student manager. Virgil Noll, Harold Noll, and Delbert Phillips played on the junior high squad and Dick Ervin on the varsity.
The ninth and eleventh grades gave a party for the high school and junior high on March 31 in the gymnasium. Refreshments were served and an orchestra played for those who wished to dance.
Laurine Burns and Joyce Garvin were in the cast of the senior play—“Shiny Nose”.
The class bought a large share of war stamps and bonds.

CLASS OF 1948-9 The seventh and eighth grade classes have been working together in many of their activities throughout the year. The seventh graders are: Donna Jean Phillips, Joan King, Shirley Morrison, Lorraine Garvin, Ralph Arnold, Jack Garvin, Dick Carter, and James Besick. The eighth graders are: Arlene Roberts, Lillian Schempp. Elaine Gerdts (second semester), Lavern Lindhorst, Orlen Stark, Richard Morrison, Hal McKillip, Richard Wieskamp, Bill Barkalow, Budd Curttright was elected president, Lillian Schempp as secretary-treasurer, and student council members were Donna Jean Phillips and Bill Barkalow.
The two classes have bought war stamps and bonds throughout the year. They also contributed 100% to the Junior Red Cross and the Infantile Paralysis Fund.
A valentine party was given February 14 in the gym for the two grades. Games were played and valentines were exchanged. Miss Anderson gave candy bars to all present.
On March 21 the seventh grade surprised Miss Anderson with a birthday party. They also presented a program before the assembly and community club honoring Bird Day.
The seventh and eighth grades sponsored a party on April 14, including the entire high school and faculty as guests.
During the basketball season Lillian Schempp played on the high school girls’ team and most of the boys played on the junior high team. By winning the county tournament, they brought a beautiful trophy home for display.

INTERMEDIATE ROOM Seventeen pupils are enrolled in the intermediate room, sixteen since the first of the year and one being added during the second semester. Members of the sixth grade are: Eunice Schempp, Gloria Curttright, Mary Ellen Jones, Elda Oepping, Kenneth Bridgford, and Darrel Sterner. Those in fifth grade are: Lois Goodale, Lorene Lindhorst, Gerald Besick, Arlo Dean Stark, and Billie Babcock. Members of the fourth grade are: Lois Burns, Betty Wieskamp, Duane Essex, William McKillip, Richard Garvin, and Billy Goodale.
The three grades have organized a citizenship club, called “Citizens of 1943 and 1944”, and have held a number of meetings. The children are learning how to conduct a business meeting, to plan a program, and to present it.
Singing is an important form of opening exercises for this room and the piano is very much appreciated.
A Thanksgiving program and a Washington’s birthday program were given in the gym. The pupils (with the primary room), according to custom, presented the Christmas program for Community Club on December 22.
Several parties have been held this year at Halloween, Christmas, and a marshmallow roast in the fall.
Up to the time of the printing of this yearbook, $83.15 had been purchased of the war stamps and bonds being sold weekly.
PRIMARY ROOM We have twenty-five pupils enrolled in the primary room. Three pupils have moved and two have entered during the year. In the third grade are: Doris Morrison, Carol Ann Wolf, Darlene Essex, Shirley Babcock, Lujeanne Lamp, Ronnie Sterner, Jerry Burns, and Leonard Besick. The second graders are: Evalena Babcock, Arlene Ellsworth, Joan Stewart, and Hilbert Nebergall. Those in the first grade are: Donnie Schmidt, Loren Lindhorst, Kay Lamp, Joe Burns, and Delvin Lindhorst. In the primary are: Janice Morrison, Sandra Barkalow, Junior Schempp, Jimmie Gerdts, Mary Goodale, Carol Stewart, Junior Coiner, and Gene Garvin.
The opening exercises consist of the flag salute and a story. In the afternoon, we usually play a folk game.
We think that science is one of our most interesting subjects. We have learned the meaning of several new words, and the habits of many of our land and water animals.
Our room helped to entertain the Community Club in December. We also helped to present a short program in the gym on Washington’s birthday.
Up to this time (March 20), our room has purchased $142.75 of war stamps and bonds.
