The total points we made for these games were 356; those of our various oppenents were 384. We played some very close games, the team's work improving toward the end of the season.

Eleven girls played varsity basketball this season. The squad was outstanding for its close cooperation and fine enthusiasm. These eleven included:

Co-Captains
Genevieve McKillip (forward-guard)
Geneva Foster (guard)

Guards Forwards
Shirley Miller Twila Van Horn
Eleanor Lindhorst Erma Sterner
Laurine Burns Lillian Schempp
Shirley Schmidt Marilyn Wolf
  Joyce Garvin

We wish to take this opportunity to thank Coach Hartung for the patience and work involved in training us. He did a fine job. We have also appreciated the work of Shirley Schmidt, our student manager.

The seniors (Twila, Genevieve, and Geneva) will be missed on next year's team, but the undergrads show great promise.

We made a total of 127 points during this season and our opponents made a total of 85 points. We feel that the season of 1943-44 has been a very successful one. We won first place in the Jr.-High County Basketball Tournament held in Muscatine.

Bill Barkalow, regular captain, was ill during some games, so Budd Curttright captained the team in his place.

The positions played by the team members were as follows:

Forwards Centers Guards
Budd Curttright Delbert Phillips Bill Barkalow
Orlen Stark Hal McKillip (or f) Lavern Lindhorst
Dick Carter   Harold Noll (or c)
Jack Garvin   Virgil Noll (or f)
Ralph Arnold

We sincerely think that without Mr. Hartung's coaching we couldn't have gotten as far as we did.

Kittenball and Baseball

During the kittenball season in the fall, this team played two regular games against Nichols. The score for the first game (played at Nichols) was 17-4 in Atalissa's favor. During the second game (at home), the Nichol's team was much better and we won by a smaller margin. The team members were:

Robert Ervin, Ray Sterner, Dean Sterner, John Ellsworth, Dick Miller, Rodney Hadley, Edwin White, Ray Oepping, Calvin Schmidt, Donald Passmore, Ronald Bridgford, Dick Ervin, Harold Noll, and Virgil Noll.

For the baseball season in the spring, one game was scheduled with West Branch on April 11. The baseball team included the same members as for the kittenball team with the exception of Dick Miller and John Ellswoth.
