INTRODUCTION
Probate Records are held at the Muscatine County Clerk’s Office located in the County Court House, 401 East Third street, Muscatine. For preservation, the old records have been microfilmed.Storing 150+ years of paper at the Court House after filming became a major issue. Rather than destroy them, the papers were offered to the Musser Public Library. After a number of years, they, too, ran into a storage problem, so the probate papers were offered to the Muscatine County Genealogical Society. They accepted with glee, eager to see what the pages contained.
Members of the Genealogy Society sorted and indexed the papers. With the permission of County officials, the Society offers these documents for interested family members to purchase.
The Muscatine County Genealogical Society submitted their “Name Index of Probate Documents” to the Muscatine County IAGenWeb on 23 August 2007. We appreciate their efforts and thank the members of the Society for their commitment in making these footprints of our ancestors more visible!
