WILLIAM HENRY WIESKAMP

By Judy Steinocher WieskampWilliam Henry Wieskamp, grandfather, came to the Nichols area from Gendringen, Holland, in 1888 because his aunt, Marie Wieskamp Salemink, lived here. His parents were John Wieskamp and Hendrina Williamsen or Willemsen. Grandfather Wieskamp was born 14 February 1867.
Elizabeth Milder was born 16 October 1872 at Nichols. Her parents were John Milder and Hendrina Burgers; they came from Holland in 1872.
William and Elizabeth were married in West Liberty on 10 February 1897. They started farming between Nichols and Lone Tree. A few years later (1900) they moved to West Liberty and farmed an acreage. William worked as a section hand on the railroad in the winter and in the brickyard in the summer. After 1912 they moved to a farm northwest of Nichols. In 1920 they moved to a farm one mile north of Nichols and lived there until William sold out and moved into Nichols in 1939 to the house where Alberta Bekker now resides [1984].
William died on 20 May 1946 and Elizabeth died on 9 August 1942. Both are buried at St. Mary’s cemetery, Nichols.
William and Elizabth had ten children, as follows:
Alverna Hendrina Wieskamp was born 17 December 1897 in Lone Tree; she died in 1955 in Davenport. She married Alphonse Heuvelman.
Marie Wilhelmina Wieskamp was born 3 February 1899 in Lone Tree; she died in 1966 in Cedar Rapids. She was married to Bernard Tone.
Leda Anna Wieskamp was born 8 August 1900 in Lone Tree. She married Michael Maxwell, who is deceased, and John Skay. She is living in Mesa, Arizona.
Leo John Wieskamp was born 7 march 1902 in West Liberty; he died in 1974 in West Liberty. He married Wilma White.
Dorothy Magdaline Wieskamp was born 25 January 1904 in West Liberty; she died in 1983 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was married to Raymond Lindle.
Raymond William Wieskamp was born 29 August 1907 in West Liberty. He married Marguerite Foley, and they live in Nichols.
Edward Theodore Wieskamp was born 19 November 1909 in West Liberty. He was married to Bernice Witte, who is deceased, and Marcella Schaapveld. He is living in Muscatine.
Bernard Henry Wieskamp was born 22 February 1912 in West Liberty. He married Valeria Schaapveld, and they live in Muscatine.
Alberta Mary Wieskamp was born 24 May 1917 in Nichols. She was married to Raymond Bekker, and she lives in Nichols.
