SISTER RAMONA KAALBERG
Nichols, Iowa Centennial Book 1884-1984, page 346Sister Ramona Kaalberg, a native of Nichols, was elected president of the Sisters of Humility of Mary, Davenport, January 28. She will succeed Sister Ann Therese Collins on July 1.
Sister Kaalberg is the daughter of Mrs. Marie M. Kaalberg and the late F. J. Kaalberg. She was born on a farm near Nichols where her brother, Gayle and his family now reside. Her mother lives nearby. Her sisters are Dolores Suchomel, Mount Vernon, Iowa and Kathleen Pettigrow, San Bernardino, California.
A graduate of Ottumwa Heights college and Marycrest college, Sister Kaalberg has been an associate professor in the education and psychology department at Marycrest since 1972. She holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in education with a concentration in psychology from George Peabody college for Teachers.
For the past three years, she has reduced her teaching load to serve as a Community Extension Coordinator, which involves creating a network for associate members and fostering new member applications to the Humility congregation. She also serves on the Seeds of Hope Advisory committee, a project which attempts to attract new members by offering experiences in ministries where sisters are serving.
Sister Kaalberg also is a member of the congregation president’s cabinet, serves as a member of the Senate of the congregation and chairs the ministry and educational review committee.
