ROBERT AND MILDRED GEERTZ

         Robert Ernest Geertz was born 24 May 1915, a son of Ernest August Geertz (1890-1970) and Mary Weiss Geertz (1891-1934). He has one sister, Frieda E. Geertz, and one brother, Carl F. Geertz.
         He was married to Myrtle Lendt. Their children are Charles Geertz, Viola Geertz, Carolyn Geertz, Alvin Geertz, Mary Emma Geertz, Joseph Geertz and Teddy Geertz.
         Charles Clarence Geertz, an adopted child, was married to Carolyn Joanne Holdeman. Their children are Charles Geertz, Cristel Geertz, Cindy Geertz, Carl Geertz and Clyde Geertz.
         Charles Alvin Geertz was married to Connie Noble. Their child is Tyson James Geertz. Charles later married Pam Niggemeyer.
         Christel Jo Geertz married William Millage. Their children are Matthew Scott Millage (adopted) and Nicholas Todd Millage.
         Cindy Lori Geertz was married to Bob Millage.
         Carl Udell Geertz is married to Melanie DeKeyrel.
         Clyde Robert Geertz is a child of Charles and Carolyn Geertz.
         Viola Claussen, a foster child of Bob Geertz, married Charles Kammerer. Their children are Daniel Wayne Kammerer and Jason Theodore Kammerer.
         Carolyn Ruth Geertz, an adopted child of Bob Geertz, was married to John Yeater. Their children are John Yeater and Pamela Yeater, and Linda Johnson and George Leroy Johnson, foster children.
         John Wesley Yeater, Jr., is married to Deborah Lynn Hiland. Their children are John Wesley Yeater, III, Joshua Ree Yeater, and James Wayne Yeater.
         Pamela Kaye Yeater was married to Mark Conaway.
         Alvin Claussen, a foster child of Bob Geertz, was married to Marjorie Sieviers. Their children are Douglas Thiran Classen, Christopher Allen Classen, and Nathan Robert Classen.
         Mary Emma Geertz, daughter of Robert and Myrtle Geertz, was born 19 September 1951, died 20 September 1951.
         Joseph Robert Geertz, son of Robert and Myrtle Geertz, married Barbara Lynn Diehl. Their son is Benjamin Travor Geertz.
         Teddy Ray Geertz, son of Robert and Myrtle Geertz, born and died 21 October 1959.
         Robert Geertz has resided in Muscatine, Cedar and Louisa counties. He first came to the Nichols area in 1960 and bought a house on an acreage on the Pike Run road, close to where Adams Station used to be located. He worked at Thatcher Plastic Packaging for 19 years. His first wife, Myrtle, worked at Muscatine General hospital for ten years.
         Bob had hobbies and a business. He had a game breeder’s license and raised game and fancy pheasants for a number of years. He also operated the Cedar Valley Nursery and planted many trees on his farm and in the community. Robert and Myrtle both wrote songs and poetry, some Hollywood productions.
         Mildred Bliven Geertz was born 18 July 1917 at Columbus Junction, Iowa. Her parents were Albert Bliven and Jessie M. Ellis Bliven. Her brother, Donald Dale Bliven, lives on Houser street in Muscatine. Her father died in 1960, her mother died in 1973. Albert was the son of John Bliven and Bessie Atchison Bliven, who lived in Fredonia, Iowa. Jessie M. Ellis was the daughter of John Ellis and Nelle Hitchell Ellis, who lived in Nichols for many years.
         Mildred Bliven married Kenneth Baxter on 16 October 1934 at Morning Sun, Iowa. They ran the Baxter Food market in that town. Mildred and Kenneth had one son, Ronald Baxter. She later divorced Kenneth, and Mildred and Ronnie lived with her parents in Muscatine, where Mildred worked for the J. C. Penney company.
         Mildred Baxter married William Porter. Their daughter is Deanna Porter. They raised melons and sold feed. Mildred worked at the W. T. Grant store in Muscatine for 17 years. William Porter died 19 January 1972, when he was almost 67 years old. Mildred then worked at Newt’s Café in Nichols.
         Later, Mildred and Bob Geertz were married. They have a large garden and do extensive traveling, having visited 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Mexico. Mildred does lots of canning and is expert at quilting. Both Mildred and Bob are active members of the Nichols Christian church and the Community club.
         Mildred’s son, Ronald Baxter, married Marilyn Braun at Mediapolis, Iowa. They have four sons: Kerry Baxter, Tommy Baxter, Jody Baxter and Scott Baxter.
         Kerry William Baxter married Patricia Hovey. Their children are Eric Baxter, Lee Ann Baxter, and Brent Baxter. A fourth child, Bryan William Baxter, died shortly after birth.
         Tommy Lee Baxter and Scott Matthew Baxter are sons of Ronald and Marilyn Baxter.
         Jody Brian Baxter, son of Ronald and Marilyn Baxter is married to Kelly Morrow.
         Mildred’s daughter, Deanna Porter, married Alan Eversmeyer. Their children are Michael Alan Eversmeyer and Aaron Jason Eversmeyer.
