MARK ELDER
Nichols, Iowa Centennial Book 1884-1984, pages 212-213
By Lisa Hayes Elder

Mark Elder married Lisa Hayes on 10 April 1976 at West Liberty’s United Methodist church. Her parents are Doc Hayes and Goldie Hayes of West Liberty.
Doc Hayes is a retired federal veterinarian who worked for the United States Department of Agriculture of 25 years in poultry inspection.
Lisa Hayes was born in Macon, Missouri. She lived in Macon until the family moved to Quincy, Illinois, for three years. Then they moved to Portage, Wisconsin, where she completed her schooling. After Lisa graduated from high school in Portage, she went to the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology and history.
Doc and Goldie Hayes moved to West Liberty, and Lisa came to Iowa after graduating from college.
Mark and Lisa have two dogs, Suzie and Rascal. There are eight cats running around the farm. They farm 600 acres, raising corn, soybeans and oats. They also raise hogs and belong to the Pork Producers and Porkettes.
Lisa is a member of the Apropos Junior Federated club. She is also president of the Nichols United Methodist Women’s group. Mark is chairman of the Methodist church’ Administrative council, and both are members of that church. Lisa plays the piano at the church on alternate Sundays and frequently solos there.
