By Deb Kasper CarterHerman C. Kasper and Evelyn Kron Kasper and their children moved to the Nichols area in the spring of 1940 in a 1935 Ford pickup truck. The family moved from north of Lone Tree to a farm purchased five miles northeast of Nichols.
The Kasper family includes Leroy Kasper, Donald Kasper, Arlene Kasper and Bernice Kasper.
Leroy Kasper married Delores Meka. They farm east of Solon. Deores also works at Solon Hardware.
Donald Kasper, Sr., married Joyce Meka, after being in the Navy for four years. They are now divorced. He has four children: Debra Kasper, Diane Kasper, Danita Kasper and Donald Kasper, Jr.
Debra Kasper married Jeffrey Carter, son of Vernon and Lois Carter. Jeff farms east of Nichols and Debra works at S/M Service Company in Nichols. They reside in West Liberty.
Diane Kasper works in the maintenance department at Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty. She lives in West Liberty.
Danita “Dee” Kasper graduated from high school and attended Kirkwood Community college in Cedar Rapids. Dee is employed at Hester’s in Nichols. She was married to Jeff Terhune. He farms with his father south of West Liberty.
Donald Kasper, Jr., is living and farming with his father.
Arlene Kasper lives at home.
Bernice Kasper Johnson has two children: James Johnson and Teresa Johnson. Jim was married to Pat Roszak. They live in Iowa City where Jim works. They have a son, David Michael. Teresa lives with her mother, Bernice, in Lone Tree. Bernice works at the Highlander Supper Club in Iowa City, and Teresa works at Taco John’s in Iowa City.
