         Frederick Hechtner was born in Prussia in 1827. He married Sophia Louisa Hechtner in 1852, and they immigrated to Princeton, Illinois, in 1853 to farm. They moved to Muscatine county, Iowa, early in the 1860s. Frederick died in 1891.
         Nine children were born to Frederick Hechtner and Sophia Hechtner: Mary Hechtner, born 1885, married Henry Hector; Emma Hechtner, born 1857, married Julius Hector; Eliza Hechtner, born 1860, married Billie Slade; Caroline Hechtner, born 1862, married Robert T. Shannon; Charles Hechtner, born 1864, married Hattie; Alfreda Hechtner, born 1866; Lizzie Hechtner, born 1869, married Will Sauer; Louise Hechtner, born 1871; and Amelia Hechtner, born 1874. Louise and Amelia died of diphtheria when they were quite young; Amelia on 10 January 1878 and Louise on 11 January 1878.
         Caroline Hechtner was born in 1862. She moved to Iowa with her parents while she was a child. She married Robert T. Shannon in 1885, and they were parents of six children. (They are listed under Robert T. Shannon.) She was a member of the Nichols Methodist Episcopal church. She died in 1934.
