         Geraldine “Jerry” Green was born in Muscatine. She attended West Liberty schools and is a graduate of Nichols High school.
         Jerry married Robert Harvey Hillyer, son of James Hillyer and Edna Metcalf Hillyer. They were married in Oceanside, California, while Bob was serving in the U. S. Marines. Bob was born 16 May 1922 and died 26 October 1971. He is buried in the Nichols cemetery.
         Jerry and Bob had four children: James Frederick Hillyer, Roy Lee Hillyer, Kathleen June Hillyer and Linda Jo Hillyer.
         Jerry and Bob lived in Nichols all of their married lives. Bob was a carpenter, worked at the Post Office, was the Chief of the Nichols Fire department, served on the Town council, was Justice of the Peace and manager of the lumber yard. He started working at the lumber yard and continued there until his death.
         Jerry was a bookkeeper at the lumber yard when Bob was there, and she stayed until the lumber yard was sold to Ron’s Feed. She was manager of the lumber yard the last year she was there. Now [1984] Jerry is working at the University hospitals in Iowa City, and she still lives in Nichols.
         Jerry and Bob’s children and grandchildren follow:
         James “Jim” Frederick Hillyer was born in Iowa City. He died 15 March 1982 and is buried at the Swank cemetery south of Lone Tree. He married Marsha Lynn Nicholson at the Nichols Christian church. They had two children: James Frederick Hillyer, Jr., born in Iowa City, and Jamey Sue Hillyer, born in Iowa City.
         Jim went to the Nichols school, then graduated from Lone Tree High school. Jim worked for Vic Mills; Jim and Marsha owned “Johnnies” tavern in Lone Tree for a while, then Jim worked at HON Industries in Muscatine until his death. Now his son works part time for Vic. Marsha works at the University hospitals in Iowa City. Jim served in the Army. They lived in Nichols a few years before moving to Lone Tree, where Marsha and the children still live.
         Roy Lee Hillyer was born in Iowa City. He lives in Hiawatha, Iowa, and works for Wilsons. Roy went to the Nichols school, then graduated from West Liberty High school.
         Kathleen June “Kathy” Hillyer was born in Iowa City. She went to the Nichols schools and graduated from West Liberty High school. Kathy married Tim Stagg at the Nichols Christian church, and they were divorced. They had two childen: Dustin Allen Stagg, born in Keokuk, Iowa, and Cheryl Lyn Stagg, born in Burlington, Iowa. Kathy and her children live in Nichols, and Kathy works at the University hospitals in Iowa City.
         Linda Jo Hillyer was born in Iowa City. She went to the Nichols school and graduated from West Liberty High school, and from Kirkwood Community college. Linda works in Iowa City at the University hospitals. She is now [1984] in the process of moving from Nichols to Iowa City.
         Of Fred and Nina Green’s family, there are, at present (1983), four children (one deceased), thirteen grandchildren (two deceased), and thirty great-grandchildren (one deceased).
