GEROT AND ELIZABETH EVITT SMITH

         Gerot Smith was born in 1792 in County Armagh, Ireland, and died 9 July 1874 in West Liberty. He was a farmer. He was married to Elizabeth Evitt, who was born in 1794, died 6 February 1888 in West Liberty.
         Gerot Smith moved to Canada from Ireland in 1815; in 1816 he moved to New York; in 1818 he moved to Pennsylvania; he moved to Ohio in 1824 and finally to Iowa in 1852.
         Gerot and Elizabeth had nine children. They are both buried in the Timberlake cemetery, located between West Liberty and Atalissa.
         William Smith, son of Gerot Smith, was born 25 March 1833 and died 5 October 1904. His first wife was Melissa Smith. They were parents of Henry Smith and William Smith and two daughters, Jenny Smith and Mattie Smith.
         William’s second wife was Sarah Sargeant. William and Sarah were parents of Frank Smith, Clarence Smith, Lillian Smith (Lillian and her baby died in childbirth), George Smith, Etta Smith and Nina Smith.
         Henry Smith, son of William Smith and Melissa Smith, was born in 1857 and died 19 December 1929. In 1883 he married Ida May Wiker, daughter of John Wiker and Ann Elizabeth Hildebrand Wiker. Ida was born 3 July 1860 in Muscatine county, and she died 5 January 1942 in Muscatine county. They were parents of ten children.
         Earnest Delbert Smith, born 30 January 1886, died 8 April 1973, married Blanche Baldridge. They had two children, Alfred Smith and Frank Smith.
         Vera Ella Smith, born 16 August 1887, died 11 July 1982, married Ernest John Green. They had four children: Esther Green, twins Ida Green and Laura Green, ad George Green.
         Harry Homer Smith, born 4 December 1888, died 29 July 1983, married Dora Darling. They had seven children: Eileen Carroll Smith, William Smith, Charlene Smith, Charles Smith, Bonnie Smith and Chettie Smith.
         Guy Giles Smith, born 7 July 1890, died 6 November 1973, married Dora Darling. They had seven children: Eileen Smith, Verle Smith, Lester Smith, Evelyn Smith and Delores Smith.
         Hysee Isadore Smith, born 5 December 1891, died 20 January 1942, married Nellie Dalton.
         Ralph Wiker Smith, born 29 August 1893, died 5 November 1923, married Marcella Keith. They had three children, twins and one child, all died in infancy.
         Nina Elizabeth Smith, born 4 March 1895, married Fred Green. They had five children: Durward Green, Doris Green, Ula Green, Wayne Green and Geraldine Green.
         Golden May Smith, born 2 May 1897, died 23 June 1936, married Ray Hendricks. They had one child, Bevelyn Hendricks.
         “Wessie” Henry Smith, born 13 October 1898, married Flossie Hazel Hubbard. They had three children: Wesley Smith, Delores Smith and Beverly Smith.
         Bernice Cordelia Smith, born 28 June 1901, married Robert George Tobin.
         John Wiker and his wife, Ann Elizabeth Hildebrand Wiker, came to Iowa in the spring of 1858 with their six small children from Pennsylvania. They came by rail as far as Atalissa, Iowa, that being the end of the railroad line at that time. Mrs. Wiker’s brother, Hoover Hildebrand, met them with an ox team and took them to his home south of West Liberty. John Wiker built a house on one part of Hoover Hildebrand’s eighty acres. It was here that Ida May Wiker (Mrs. Henry Smith) was born in the year 1860.
         Ida May Wiker married Henry Smith in 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were the parents of ten children: Delbert Smith, Vera Smith, Harry Smith, Guy Smith, Hysee Smith, Ralph Smith, Nina Smith, Goldie Smith, Wesley Smith and Bernice Smith. They farmed for many years south of Nichols. Henry Smith died in 1929 and Ida Smith in 1942.
