From the Iowa City Press-Citizen of Saturday, 2 May 1970, comes the following article.
Mrs. Harold Suchomel of Mt. Vernon has been named University of Iowa Representative Mother for 1970. She was to be present at the annual Mother’s Day Luncheon today in the Memorial Union, and will be a special guest at other UI Mother’s Day Weekend events. Deanna Daly, Mason City junior who is chairman of the weekend, will introduce the 1970 UI Mother.
Mrs. Suchomel, a native of Nichols, was nominated for the honor by her daughter, Rita, a sophomore at UI. The UI Mother is chosen by members of the Mother’s Day Weekend committee from mothers nominated by sons and daughters attending the University.

Vernon Parent-Teacher’s Association, the Mt. Vernon Music Parents, and the Alumni Association of Mt. Mercy college, Cedar Rapids. She was secretary of the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce from 1963-1968.
