DANIEL NELS CHRISTOFFERSON

By Pat Smith ChristoffersonDaniel Nels Christofferson was born in Muscatine, Iowa, the only child of Edward F. Christofferson and Lois J. Edgar Christofferson. He attended Muscatine Junior college and was a member of the Army Reserve for six years.
Patricia Ann Smith was born in Iowa City, a daughter of Calvin L. Smith, Sr. and Mary F. Schilling Smith. She has two sisters and three brothers living in Iowa, and one sister who is deceased. Pat attended The University of Iowa and San Bernadino Junior college; her major was in art.
Daniel and Patricia were married at St. Mary’s church in Nichols. They own 120 acres in Pike township and attend St. Mary’s Catholic church in Nichols. Dan plays softball and volleyball on the Nichols League and enjoys fishing and running.
Dan and Pat have three children: Sandra J. Christofferson, John E. Christofferson and Joshua L. Christofferson. All were born in Iowa City, Iowa.
Dan’s grandfather, Nelse Kristoffersen (old spelling) was born 6 April 1871 in Denmark. He came to the United States in 1891 because he felt there was more opportunity in America. He worked as a farm hand. He married Murney McHenry in Illinois on 23 November 1898, and they came to Iowa in 1899. In 1909 they bought a farm of 260 acres located on section 13, Pike township.
Nelse died 26 November 1936. Murney Anna McHenry Christofferson was born 3 February 1882 and died 4 April 1966. They were the parents of eleven children:
(1) Marie Johanna Christofferson, born 23 June 1899, died 8 March 1930.
(2) Earnest Christofferson, born 21 January 1901, died 1911.
(3) Della Blanche Christofferson, born 19 May 1902, living in West Liberty, Iowa [1984].
(4) Hazel Nell Christofferson, born 5 May 1904, living in Muscatine, Iowa [1984].
(5) Christian Christofferson, born 14 February 1906, died 31 December 1973.
(6) Jessie Ellen Christofferson, born 26 October 1907, living in Muscatine, Iowa.
(7) Leroy Christofferson, born 25 February 1909, living in Nichols.
(8) Martin Christofferson, born 26 February 1910, living in Moline, Illinois.
(9) Nels Christofferson, born 4 April 1916, died 6 April 1916.
(10) Murney Iola Christofferson, born 8 October 1917, living in Atalissa, Iowa.
(11) Edward Frederick, born 16 February 1920, died 30 November 1978.
