CLARENCE C. MILLER FAMILY

         Clarence Miller and Florence Miller, together with their two daughters, Helen Miller and Clarice Miller, moved to Nichols in the spring of 1929 from West Branch, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were both raised in Jones county, where they had farmed for a number of years.
         Clarence Clifton Miller, the son of John Jacob Miller and Ardelia Josephine Miller, was born 31 January 1897 near Platte, South Dakota. After the death of his father in 1899, his mother and three children moved to Olin, Iowa. Florence Miller, the daughter of Harmon and Jennie Pulver, was born 10 September 1895 near Anamosa, Iowa. Clarence and Florence were married 25 February 1920. Their daughters, Helen Virginia Miller and Clarice Elizabeth Miller, were born in Jones county.
         Upon moving to Nichols, Clarence operated the Sinclair gas station on the west edge of town. During the depression he started a trucking business, and later he expanded it to include four trucks. He continued in this work until his retirement. Clarence was usually very quiet and was contented with his work and his home.
         Florence, besides maintaining their home, had a great interest in church work at the Nichols United Methodist church, and was considered a green thumber with her excellent vegetable and flower gardens at their home, 509 Broadway.
         Florence Miller died 18 October 1972, and Clarence Miller died 9 May 1980.
         Helen Miller married Clarence W. Wiese of Gladbrook, Iowa, and they live in Davenport, Iowa. Clarence was employed at International Harvester, Farmall Works, as a cost accountant until his retirement. They have three sons: William Wiese, Larry Wiese and Allyn Wiese.
         William C. Wiese married Nancy Spencer of Maitland, Florida. They live in Orlando, Florida, and both are employed by Martin Marietta Aerospace.
         Larry J. Wiese married Suzanne parish of Davenport, Iowa. They reside in Davenport, where Larry is pastor of the Reformed Baptist Fellowship and owns the Paperback Exchange. They have two children: Matthew Henry Wiese and Jonathan Edward Wiese.
         Allyn M. Wiese is married to Connie Maynard of Green Rock, Illinois. They live in Davenport; he is a journeyman electrician.
         Clarice Miller married Robert Lowe of Nichols. They moved to a farm north of Letts, Iowa, where they still live. Robert started working for Bandag in Muscatine and became a semi-retired farmer. He is presently a senior lab technician for Bandag, Inc. They have two sons and one daughter: Jerry Lowe, James Lowe and Sandra Lowe.
         Jerry L. Lowe was an owner-operator of a semi truck for six years, but sold out. He is doing auto repair and body work.
         James R. Lowe is employed by Kent Feeds, Inc. in Muscatine.
         Sandra K. Lowe is married to Dennis Mason of Marquette, Iowa. They own the Marquette Meat and Fish Market. They have one son, Luke Patrick Mason.
