KLINE’S CORNER
Nichols, Iowa Centennial Book 1884-1984, page 294
By Betty Kline

A mile north of Highway 22 and a mile east of the Muscatine-Johnson county line is the old Adam Schuerman farm that has now been in the Kline family nearly 40 years.
Frank Kline and his wife, Hilda Kline, moved to the farm in 1945 from Lone Tree, where they had owned and operated a tavern and restaurant for several years. Their only child, Bernard Kline and his wife and their only child, Bill Kline, moved to the Nick Schmitt farm, just south of the corner, and joined them in their farming operation.
Bill Kline spent all of his school years at Nichols and graduated in the last class to be graduated from Nichols High school.
Frank and Hilda moved to Nichols, where Frank died. Hilda cooked in Newt’s Café in Nichols for years. Bernard Kline and Betty Kline moved to the home farm and still reside there.
Bill Kline is married to Helen Johnston. They have four children and live in Hills at the present time. Bill has been employed at Moore’s in Iowa City for years. Helen and their oldest daughter, Sue Kline, are employed in the business offices of The University of Iowa. Son Mike Kline is attending Iowa State university at Ames, and the two youngest daughters, Deb Kline and Kathy Kline, are still at home [1984].
