Albert Hazen Family
Nichols, Iowa Centennial Book 1884-1984, page 250
By Jacque Hazen

The sixth generation of Hazens are now living in Nichols. We believe Albert Hazen, born 10 January 1819, died 15 April 1892, brought his family from Deuseldorf, Germany. We know that Albert had two sons, Albert (1858-1921) and John (1858-1883). They were farmers. We do not know when or why the spelling of the name was changed to Hazen.
Albert Hazen married Veronica Kaeffring (181-1898). She was from Oxford, Iowa. Albert and Veronica lived where Marie Kaalberg now [1984] lives. Albert enjoyed making baskets from reeds he gathered from the ditch. The baskets were used to carry eggs and vegetables to town.
Veronica and Albert Hazen had seven children: Oliver Hazen, 1890-1964; Theodore Hazen, born 1881; Netty Hazen Holmes; Bertha Hazen Pike; Willard Hazen, who died at birth; Maymie Hazen Brugman, and Cleveland Hazen. Veronica died when Cleveland was about five years old.
Albert and Veronica were strict Catholics, and a window in St. Mary’s church has their names on it.
