         Alexander Thomson Elder was born in Fremont, Ohio. He married Ann Jane Hill, who was born in Ireland. Later they came to Muscatine county in 1854. They lived near Adams Station, which consisted of a depot and a general store located east of Nichols.
         Alexander T. Elder died 29 December 1901; Ann Jane Hill Elder died 15 July 1904. Both are buried in the Nichols cemetery.
         They had five children: John Elsworth Elder, Freeman Elder, Mary Elder, Lucy Elder and Emma Elder.
         John Elsworth Elder was born 29 April 1859 and died 14 May 133. He was married 25 December 1882 to Clara Ellen Shellabarger. They farmed south of Nichols about 1883. They were parents of five children: Earl Ray Elder, Charles Wesley Elder, Mary Ruth Elder, Icy Mable Elder and Walter Freeman Elder.
         Freeman H. Elder was born 18 June 1860 and died 14 March 1940. In 1881 he married Isabelle Wicky, who died 11 March 1930. Their children were Fred Elder, Frank Elder, James Elder and Mae Elder.
         Fred Elder, son of Freeman H. Elder and Isabelle Elder, was born 25 February 1883 and died 10 November 1963. He married twice: Grace Mitchell and Mae O’Harrow. His children (first marriage) are Frances Elder and Robert Elder. Frances Elder married Leland Billick. Robert Elder married Wanda Morford of West Liberty.
         Frank Elder, son of Freeman H. Elder and Isabelle Elder, was born in 1888 and died in May 1958. He married Lettie Jarrard of Letts, Iowa. Their children are James Elder, Jr., Harold Elder, Edwin Elder and Doris Elder Fuhrmeister.
         Mae Elder married Carl Felton. Their children were Dorothy Felton and Clyde Felton.
         Mary Ruth Elder was a daughter of Alexander T. Elder and Ann Jane Hill Elder. She married Joseph P. Longfellow, Bedford, Iowa. Their children were Frank Longfellow, Charlie Elder Longfellow, Henry Longfellow, Lem Longfellow, Joseph Longfellow and Tom Longfellow.
         Frank Longfellow’s wife was Aileen Longfellow. Their children are Jean Longfellow and Donald Longfellow.
         Charlie Elder Longfellow was born 19 September 1880 and died 4 December 1973. He was married to Mary Talena Streebin. Their children are Harry Longfellow of Bedford, Iowa, and Earl Longfellow of Omaha, Nebraska.
         Henry Longfellow’s wife was Alta Longfellow. They live at Clearfield, Iowa [1984].
         Lem Longfellow’s wife was Fonda Longfellow. They live at Bedford, Iowa [1984].
         Joseph Longfellow lived at Perry, Iowa [1984].
         Tom Longfellow lived at Newberg, Oregon [1984].
         Lucy Elder was a daughter of Alexander T. Elder and Ann Jane Hill Elder. She married Henry Judson Brown, a son of Nelson S. Brown and Susanna Nichols Brown. They farmed south of Nichols. Their children were Harry Brown, Towney Brown, Clinton Brown, Louva Brown, Jennie Brown, Marie Brown and Louis Nelson Brown.
         Harry Brown married Katie Wills.
         Towney Brown was born 17 June 1890. He married Merle Colbert on 4 December 1912. Their children are Townsend Brown and Loren Brown.
         Clinton Brown married Zula May Abbott. Their son was Clinton Brown, who lives in Waterloo [1984]. Clinton and Zula were divorced.
         Louva Brown married Fred TePoel; they lived in Fremont, Nebraska.
         Jennie Brown married Oscar Fox. She is deceased.
         Marie Brown married George Kirchner. They are parents of two sons.
         Louis Nelson Brown married Audrey Foster. They lived in West Liberty.
         Emma Elder, daughter of Alexander T. Elder and Ann Jane Hill Elder, married Alexander “Bud” Coyner on 30 March 1871. They lived near the Nichols cemetery. Their children were Harry Coyner, Ed Coyner, Mark Coyner, Clayton Coyner, Anna Coyner and Della Coyner.
         Harry Coyner was born 6 April 1900; he died in 1973. His wife was Emma Schomberg. They had four children: Bob Coyner, Fred Coyner, Alice Coyner and Annabell Coyner.
         Bob Coyner, son of Harry Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, had four children: Kenton Coyner of Muscatine, Vontayne Coyner Ziegenhorn of Muscatine, Lance Coyner of Peoria, Illinois, and Renee Coyner Martin.
         Fred Coyner, son of Harry Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, married Evelyn Richards. Annabell Coyner, daughter of Harry Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, married Raymond Toyne. Ed Coyner, son of Bud Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, lived in Homestead, Florida. He had a fruit and vegetable business.
         Mark Coyner, son of Bud Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, ran the Park Avenue fruit and vegetable stand in Muscatine. They had one son.
         Clayton Coyner, son of Bud Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, was a horse trader. He lived in Nichols.
         Anna Coyner, daughter of Bud Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner, married George Hahn, who was in the produce business. Their daughter was Marie Hahn, who married Warren Baker. Della Coyner, daughter of Bud Coyner and Emma Elder Coyner was born in 1869 and died in 1956. She married Silas Rummells, who was a merchant, hotel owner, mortician and about 1916 he raised cabbage and was known as the Cabbage King. They had six children: Harolde J. Rummells, Amanda Rummells, Edna Rummells, Helen Rummells, Dorothea Rummells and Howard Rummells.
         Harolde J. Rummells married Elsie Pratt: their children were Gwendolyn Rummells and Khairom Rummells. Gwendolyn was married to Dean Floyd; they have a daughter. Khairom Rummells was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
         Amanda Rummells, daughter of Della Coyner and Silas Rummells, married Harry Shannon. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa. They had two daughters.
         Edna Rummells, daughter of Della Coyner and Silas Rummells, married Walter TeStrake. They lived in Indian Rock, Florida.
         Helen Rummells, daughter of Della Coyner and Silas Rummells, married Gene Borchardt. They lived in Florida.
         Dorothea Rummells, daughter of Della Coyner and Silas Rummells, married Hubert Tipton.
