Retired Muscatine Man's Body Recovered at Lock------ The body of Arthur S. Walker, 71-year-old retired machinist from Muscatine, was found in the Mississippi river at lock and dam 16 Friday night. This morning his fishing boat and gear were found in brush along the Illinois bank of the river a short distance above the lock and dam. Walker who lived with sons and a daughter in Muscatine and Moline, had been spending most of his time at the family's cottage on an island near Fairport. A son, Lloyd A. Walker, 126 Walters street said there was no evidence on the boat to indicate an accident of any kind. Three fishing nets which the man had pulled from the river to relocate were in the boat. His eyeglasses were on a seat and there was an open pocket knife nearby. It was presumed he suffered a heart attack and fell into the water. Lloyd Walker said a friend told him he had seen a boat without an occupant bobbing along in the river a half mile or so above the dam Friday evening. Lloyd Vance a lockman, discovered the body after towboat and barges had been locked through. He notified the Rock Island county coroner, Leslie H. Banning, and the sheriff's department shortly before 10 p.m. A resident of this community most of his life. Mr. Walker was born Nov. 19, 1892, in Drury Township, Ill., the son of Lee Andrew and Laura Howard Walker. He was married Sept. 30, 1916, in Muscatine, to Permelia T. Davidson. Suicide in Wilton.---- Wilton mourns the loss of one of its most esteemed citizens, John Wallace, by a suicidal death last evening.---- Mr. Wallace left his dwelling about 10 o'clock last evening in an ordinary way, and his lifeless body was found but a few minutes later hanging by a rope beneath the water tank in the rear of the house. The body was still warm when the sad discovery was made, but life was extinct. The family and people of the town look upon the terrible deed as wholly inexplicable, and there seems no possible solution of the mystery save in the sickness that has affected Mr. Wallace the past year and which may have caused temporary derangement. Deceased was about 55 years of age, and a wife, four sons and one daughter survive him. He did the principal blacksmithing business of the town, and was thought to be prosperous, and his domestic concerns were known to be of the happiest order. His fatal act was undoubtedly owing to mental derangement.

Died at 10 o'clock last evening, at his home on East Second street, Mr. Harry Wallingsford, of consumption, aged 45 years. The deceased leaves a wife to mourn his death. He was a member of one of the Masonic lodges.
Friday, 8 March 1889-- Obituary.-- W. H. Wallingsford was born in Ohio on December 5, 1836, and died of consumption in Muscatine February 27th, 1889, aged 53 years, 2 months and 22 days. He had been a resident of the State 39 years, and of the city nine years. He was a carpenter by trade, was a member of the Christian church, and belonged to Hawkeye Lodge A. F. & A. M.
Old Settlers' Meeting.-- Tribute to Brother Wallingsford.-- Another early settler has passed away. William Henry Wallingsford, who died Feb. 27, 1889, after being a resident of our county for nearly forty years. He is the last of an old frontier family that should not go unnoticed by our society. His grandfather was an aged Baptist preacher (who labored in the western part of our county) who was born at Kenton's Station in Kentucky, at so early a period that but two stations existed in the whole State. After helping to settle Ohio, he emigrated with his sons and grandsons to Iowa. To the last member of that frontier family we address this tribute. While Harry was but a humble mechanic by occupation, his standing and character gave him prominence. He was strictly honest in all his dealings, industrious and frugal, kind and obliging and both honorable and reliable. He was a man to whom every old settler, who knew him, was willing to extend a cordial greeting. Therefore, be it Resolved, That we extend our sympathy to his bereaved family in their affliction and that a copy of this tribute be furnished the papers for publication.
