WILTON FARMER ILL; HANGS SELF IN BARN-------- Wilton, IA., Aug. 12---Frederick Techau, aged 79 years, a well known resident of this section of the county, hanged himself at 11 o'clock this morning at his home three miles southeast of Wilton. Leona Terry Drinks Acid to End Life ------- Three hours after she had swallowed more than an ounce of carbolic acid, Miss Leona Terry, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Terry, 603 East Ninth street, died at Hershey hospital at 9 p.m. Monday. The girl, who peddled candy for her father, swallowed the poison in the women's rest room in the city hall. Police who heard her screaming for help from the stairs leading from their headquarters in the basement of the building, rushed her to the hospital in the police car. She collapsed soon after leaving the building.------ Said She Lost Money.------ Police said that the stricken girl had made the statement that she had lost some of the money made selling candy and was afraid to go home. Her parents and other members of her family, however, reported that she had lost no money and were at loss to explain her act. Her father declared that she had given no hint that she was contemplating suicide. He said she had sold the usual amount of candy Monday and had appeared untroubled when last seen by the family. He praised her ability as a saleswoman and bookkeeper, declaring that she kept most of the records of his candy business and was in charge of buying ingredients for the candy and paying bills. She would average $9 a day selling candy. She was just as regular as a clock. She was the best candy seller I ever had,, he said.------ Check Acid Sale.----- Police were checking today to ascertain where the girl obtained the bottle of carbolic acid. It is believed the bottle containing two ounces of the fluid, was sold at a local drug store. The bottle and Miss Terry's candy basket and purse, were found near the spot where she swallowed the poison. Dr. W. S. Norton, county coroner, announced today that no inquest would be held. Miss Terry is survived by her parents, six sisters, Mrs. Dallas Seiler, Dorothy, Margaret, Bernice, June, and Laura and six brothers, Sidney, Paul, Kenneth, Sherwood, Freddie and Bobbie. The body is at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals but will be taken to the residence at 603 East Ninth street later this afternoon. Funeral rites will be held from the home Thursday. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. ------Submitters' Note: I'm no relation.

Mr. Thompson was well known by the old residents of this place, for he always took an active part in the advancementof those principles that were for the betterment of mankind. Hugh Thompson was born in Carol county, Ohio, February 8, 1830, and died at his home in Wilton, Iowa, May 10, 1911. His death was due to dropsy and other complications due to his age as he was 81 years, 3 months and two days old at the time of his death and he had been an invalid for about two years, during which time it was impossible for him to engage in his former activities. Mr. Thompson's father was born in England and his mother in Ireland, and his family home in the state of Ohio. In September 1855, he was married to Samantha Ensign in Portage county, Ohio. Some fifty years ago they moved onto a farm in Muscatine county and in 1870 he moved to Wilton, Iowa, where Mrs. Thompson died in 1872. To this union was born one child, James Ensign Thompson, who met accidental death on the cars in 1874. To this union was born one child, Mata E., a former teacher in the Wilton schools, but now of Portland Ore. Throughout his long sickness he did not seem to suffer and was very devoted and acknowledged every attention given him by the faithful wife who aided and comforted him during his long sickness and who deserves words of appreciation for the tender loving care given her companion during his last days on earth. Besides his wife and his daughter, Mrs. Mata Brower, of Portland Ore, he leaves three brothers, James Thompson, of Little River, Kansas; George Thompson, of Muscatine; and Jackson Thompson, of Grand Island, Nebraska. Conscious to the last, smiling and without suffering, he looked up at his wife, folded his hands and went peacefully to rest; where we hope in Heaven to meet Him, where no farewell tears are shed. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. M. E. Lumbar, pastor of the church. Interment was made at Oakdale cemetery. Atalissa, Ia., Aug. 17 – Injuries sustained in an auto accident Sunday evening proved fatal to Glen Thompson, a well know local young man, as he was being removed to a hospital at Iowa City at 6:30 o’clock last evening. He displayed no signs of illness until yesterday morning when a physician was summoned. His condition grew more critical during the afternoon and it was decided that hospital treatment was necessary. He was then placed in a car and rushed to an Iowa City hospital, death occurring in the auto as the attendants were about to remove him to a bed. Internal injuries resulting from the accident are believed to have caused his demise.--- That the incident leading to his death will be probed is indicated in the announcement here that an inquest over the young man’s body was conducted by County Coroner Dr. E. H. King at West Liberty this morning. A number of local residents were subponaed as witnesses.--- Thompson and his wife, after attending services at the Cedar Valley church Sunday evening, seated themselves in their buggy and were about to journey homeward when an auto said to have been occupied by three West Liberty young men backed into the buggy, which, it is said, was about sixty feet from the car. As a result of the crash, Thompson sustained a fractured right arm and internal injuries. Later, he was given medical attention and indications were that he would recover rapidly. He made a number of trips from his home to the city early in the week and did not complain of illness until Thursday morning.--- The deceased, who, only a few months ago, married Miss Lela McIntyre, was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson and was born and raised in this vicinity. He was 21 years of age.
West Liberty, Ia, Aug 17 – That the rather sudden death of Glen Thompson of Atalissa was caused by an auto accident in which the young man figured Sunday evening was the verdict returned by a coroner’s jury at an inquest here this morning. The jurymen declared that death resulted from stoppage of the heart brought about when Thompson fell from his buggy after the vehicle had been struck by an automobile driven by John Coxon of this city and in which two other local young men, Charles Gatton and Crett Embree, were also seated.--- County Coroner King presided at the inquest, Ernest McGowen, Walter Fogg and Frank Montgomery served as jurymen. Several witnesses testified. The inquest was held at the S. C. Snider undertaking parlors.

Orval Glen Thompson was born at Eliza, Mercer county, Illinois, November 29, 1889, and died, as the result of an automobile collision at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, August 16, 1917.--- Glen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Thompson of Atalissa, Ia., and was well and favorably known as a kind and obedient son.--- On the 28th of February, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Lela V. McIntire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McIntire of Cedar Valley. He was a faithful member of the Cedar Valley M. E. church for over four years. He gladly assisted in the erection of the new church building at Cedar Valley and their wedding ceremony was the first performed in the new building. He leaves to mourn his departure his young wife, his father and mother and other relatives. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.--- The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Harvey E. Butler at the late home and with a public service in the Cedar Valley M.
