MARY McAVOY---- BELOVED SOUTH END RESIDENT IS DEAD ------------ MRS. GEORGE McAVOY DIES EARLY THIS MORNING ------------ Fatal Stroke of Paralysis Received During Night---Resident For Six Years ------------ One of the best known and at the same time one of the most beloved women of South Muscatine, died at 4 o'clock this morning, Mrs. George McAvoy, passing away at her home, 1025 Kansas street, at the age of sixty-one years, following an attack of apoplexy and a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. McAvoy had been in ill health for the past three years but bore her suffering with such patience and fortitude that she performed her regular household duties without complaint until two weeks ago when she was overcome by her final sickness. During the night she received a fatal paralytic stroke, succumbing early this morning. Three years ago she suffered the first stroke, at that time losing the sight of the right eye and the hearing of the left ear. Since that time she suffered several other strokes, practically regaining her full faculties after each. The deceased was a devoted christian, earning the respect and love of almost all who came in contact with her. She was especially beloved of children. There was not perhaps a more universally liked resident in the South End than the decedent, and news of her demise will be received with genuine regret. As a member of the Musserville Friend's church ever since it was erected a number of years ago, Mrs. McAvoy took a prominent part in the activities of the church. Until about a year ago she was one of the most active members of the Ladies Aid society of that church. Mrs. McAvoy was born in Ohio, April 10, 1850. She was a resident of this city for twenty-six years, continuously residing in South Muscatine. As Mary Hardin, she was married to George McAvoy in 1872 at Cairo, illinois. Mr. McAvoy, who survives her has been retired for the past year owing to illness. To their union seven children were born, all of whom survive her, being, Mrs. Harry Davidson, of Davenport, Mrs. Jacob Jones, of Paden City,West Virginia, Frank McAvoy, of Keota, Iowa, Mrs.Rolland Gray of Muscatine, Thomas McAvoy, of Keota, Iowa, William McAvoy, of Washington, Iowa, and Mrs. Elwood Royster, of Muscatine. Besides the children, Mrs. McAvoy is survived by the following half sisters and a half brother : Mrs. William Peck, of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Harry McLaughlin, of Nebraska, Mrs. John Murray of Pasadena, California, and Harry Hardin, of Keota, Iowa. Funeral arrangements will not be made until the arrival of Mrs. Jones, of West Virginia, who is the farthest removed from this city. All the relatives are expected to attend the obsequies.

Sudden Death---- John A. McBride, formerly of Lake Township, who recently bought the M. M. Lewis place on Cedar Street near 8th, died at 5 o'clock this morning of paralysis. He was taken sick last night and Dr. Smith was sent for, who administered a hypodermic injection and he seemed better and slept till four o'clock this morning. He was sitting on the edge of the bed immediately before death, and after breathing hard, fell over dead. The deceased leaves a wife and four sons - Charles, Will, Frank, and Elmer. Mr. McBride was 62 years of age. He was a native of Massachusetts. He was for many years a farmer in Lake township, removing to this city about two months ago. He was a man of independent character and thought, and bore the reputation of a good citizen and honorable, upright neighbor, and a kind-hearted husband and father.

J. F. MCBRIDE-------J. F. McBride, resident of Muscatine for practically his entire life and blacksmith here for the last 25 years, died at 12:45 o'clock this morning at his hime, 326 Oak Street. Death was due to leakage of the heart. He was 50 years old. He was born March 30, 1873, in Rock Island county, Ill., and came to this city when a boy. He married Miss Ella Graff about 20 years ago, to which union two children were born, both of whom survive. For many years he conducted a blacksmith shop near the high bridge on Walnut street but for the last year has been located on Mulberry avenue. Fraternally, he was affiliated with the A.O.U.W. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Grace McBride and a son, Frank McBride, both of this city: four sisters, Mrs. Alice Newcomb, Mrs. Ida Satterthwaite and Mrs. Anna Edgington, all of Muscatine, and Mrs. Martha Lee of Lawrence, Kas., and a brother, Rutherford McBride of Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the home. Burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery.

His marriage to Mary Gertrude GROSJEAN took place Feb. 22, 1911, at St. Mary’s church, Nichols. --- A retired farmer, he had served on the Seventy-Six township school board, the West Liberty fair board. the FHA board, the Soil Conservation committee, the ASC committee, as director of the Farm Bureau and held membership in other farm organizations.--- Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clement McBRIDE, Letts, and Eugene McBRIDE, Muscatine; six daughters, Miss Gwendolyn McBRIDE, Moline, Mrs. Walter MILLER and Mrs. Duane EBNER, Muscatine, Mrs. Norman DRAKE, East Moline, Mrs. Sheldon LEUTZINGER, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. James COOK, Iowa City; one brother, Ralph McBRIDE, Muscatine; and 13 grandchildren. --- In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Anita McBRIDE.

Mary Ellen McBride, 78, of 117 W. Third St. died early Monday, Dec. 26, 1994, at the Muscatine Care Center. Services will be Wednesday, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Pallbearers will be Michael Beinke, Jed Figg, Carl Holten, Bill Gardner, Richard Resch and Jim Morgan. Burial will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. McBride was born Oct. 14, 1916 in Muscatine, the daughter of James Edwin and Eva Mae Hahn Elliott. She married Thomas Oliver McBride on April 2, 1949, in Muscatine. She was a member of the former Otterbein Methodist Church in Muscatine. She retired from the Maid Rite where she worked for more than 20 years.---Survivors include her husband Thomas, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Evelyn "Babe" Libenguth of Muscatine, and Helen Jameson of DeWitt, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. DeWayne "Helen" Storms of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Lutheran Homes Chaplain Robert Ahlstrom and the Rev. Suz McIver of First Christian Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mike Beinke, Josh Beinke, Carl Holten, Max Herman, Richard Resch, and Bill Gardner. Burial will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McBride was born Sept. 24, 1904, in Black Rock, Ark., a son of Thomas F. and Rebecca Wier McBride, He had lived here since 1926. He married Mary Ellen Elliot on April 2, 1949, in Muscatine.--- He was employed as a welder for 25 years, and had previously worked as a button cutter. He retired in 1970.--- Survivors include his daughter Mrs. Arthur (Evelyn) "Babe") Libenguth of Muscatine; one grandson, Mike and Jan Beinke of Muscatine; four granddaughters, Mrs. Carl (Sherri) Holten of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Richard (Becky) Resch of Rock Island, ILL., Mrs. Jed (Kim) Figg of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Max (Mikki) Herman of Clinton; one brother, Melvin McBride of O'Fallon, Mo., and his little friend, his dog, "Kola." William H. McBRIDE, 86, who had made his home at Hotel Muscatine, lifelong resident and for many years proprietor of a drug store here, died today at Bellevue hospital after an illness of nine weeks. --- Mr. McBRIDE was born here Nov. 17, 1866, being a son of John and Mary McBRIDE. He married Miss Wilhelmina RICHARDS a number of years ago. --- Surviving are a niece, Mrs. Mildred KENT and two nephews, Ralph A. McBRIDE and J. S. McBRIDE, all of Muscatine along with several grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister and three brothers. --- The body is at the Ralph J. KINCAID took place April 4, 1942, at Washington, Ia. His occupation was farming. --- In addition to his wife, he is survived by a nephew, Ray McCABE, of Wilton. Death was attributed to hemorrhagic purpura. --- Emma ALTEKRUSE was born in Lake township on Feb. 17, 1880, the daughter of Henry and Matilda ADDLEMAN-ALTEKRUSE. She was married to C. T. McCABE, who survives. Three brothers, I. D. ALTEKRUSE of Rockford, Ill., A. J. ALTEKRUSE of Muscatine, and Harry BUCK of Fremont, Ia., also survive. Wilton - Ray D. McCABE, 73, retired farmer and business man, died at the Muscatine County hospital on Monday after an extended illness. The body is at the Griffith Funeral home where friends may call Services will be held at the Presbyterian church on Thursday. --- Mr. McCABE, the son of Daniel and Amelda VANATTA-McCABE, was born on a farm six miles southwest of Muscatine on Jan. 29, 1881. He married Rhea LEGLER on Jan. 25, 1911, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1936. --- The family moved to Wilton in 1914, and later resided at Iowa City and Marengo before Mr. McCABE returned to Wilton following the death of his wife. --- Surviving are a son, Paul Edwin McCABE and one brother, Chester T. McCABE. His parents, wife, a brother, Scott E. McCABE and a sister, Mrs. Tilla NYENHUIS preceded him in death. ----------------newspaper date unknown----- Funeral services for Ray D. McCABE, were held Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian church. Pallbearers were M. J. Doyle, Fred Tharp, Charles Hermann, Charles Adams, L. S. McCoy, G. J. Norton. Miss Arvilla Atwill and Mrs. Maude Teasdale were flower attendants. W. J. Jasperson conducted the Masonic burial rites at the grave. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery, Muscatine.

OBITUARY. Anna Elizabeth Piggott, daughter of Harrison and Clementine Piggott, was born in Flushing, Belmont Co. Ohio, Sept. 24, 1849 and passed away in Iowa City Iowa, July 2 1928 aged 78 years 9 months and 8 days. ---- Her early life was spent in Ohio and in early womanhood she was baptized in the Christian church in Flushing Ohio. She moved with her parents to Cedar County Iowa, and settled on a farm near Sunbury when she was eighteen years of age. She was married to George H. McCartney [*eoGrge sic] of Wilton at Muscatine Iowa, November 29, 1870 and the family home was established. --- To this union were born seven children, four of whom with the husband survive. They are Jesse W. of Tracy, California, Charles O. of Spokane, Wash. Mrs. Edith Winsell and Francis M. of Wilton Iowa, all of whom are present for the funeral. --- Two children Jacob H. and Edwin S. died in infancy and a son, Frederick, George, passed away in Wilton December 24, 1911 at the age of 35 years. --- She is also survived by one brother, William J. Piggott of Galva, Ill, 10 grand children and 13 great grand-children. --- Mr. and Mrs. McCartney lived in Taylor Co. Iowa and Greenwood Co. Kans. before moving to Wilton in 1879. Due to there being no Christian church in Wilton Mrs. McCartney united with the M.E. church in Wilton February 6 1881. --- The funeral will be private from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Edith Winsell, Saturday, July 7 at 10:00 A.M. with interment in Oakdale cemetery.

Burial was in Oakdale cemetery. --- Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Mrs. McCartney Saturday were: Jesse W. McCartney of Tracy, Calif, Charles O. McCartney of Spokane Wash. Mrs. Grace Saunders of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Steve McCartney and family, Mr. and Mrs. Will Kilting and family of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Demise Results From Pneumonia Contracted a Week Ago Following 5 Years' Illness of Asthma.
Wilton, Ia., Dec. 25. -- (Special.) -- Suffering from asthma for the last five years which a week ago developed into pneumonia, Frederick G. McCartney, a well known local restaurateur, died at his home here at ten o'clock yesterday morning. Up to within several days his condition had not been regarded as dangerous. --- He was born in Stanton, Montgomery county, Ia., September 2, 1876, but was practically a life-long resident of Wilton, coming to this city with his parents as a child. Eight years ago he married Miss Sadie Doran. To survive him he leaves his widow, an adopted son, father and mother. A sister, Mrs. Albert Winsell also survives him. All reside in Wilton. In addition to the foregoing relatives who mourn his death, are three brothers, Jesse of Seattle, Wash.; Charles, of Spokane, Wash.; and Frank, of Michigan. --- The funeral will be held from the Grace Reformed church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services to be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Kresbe.

Wilton -- Funeral services for George C. McCartney, 54, of Muscatine, who died Wednesday at Muscatine General Hospital, will be conducted by the Rev. Burial will be at Oakdale cemetery. --- Mr. McCartney, who had been a resident of Muscatine the past six years, died of a heart ailment. He was born May 22, 1905, being a son of James and Sadie Henley. He married Willamae Smith at Burlington. He was a member of the Methodist church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, having been in service during World War II. --- He is survived by his wife, his mother at Wilton; two sons, Laverne G. McCartney of Laramie, Wyo., and Robert D. McCartney of Cheyenne, Wyo., and two grandchildren.

He married Willamae Smith at Burlington. He was a member of the Methodist church and V. F. W., having served during World War II. Mr. McCartney had been a resident of Muscatine the past six years, where he was a barber. --- He is survived by his wife, his mother at Wilton; two sons, Laverne of Laramie, Wyo., and Robert of Cheyenne, Who., and a step daughter, Mrs. Norma Fuller, Costa Mesa, Calif., and two grandchildren.

Last Civil War Veteran Is Called. Geo. McCartney Buried in Oakdale Sunday. - George H. McCartney, the last Civil War veteran of the Wilton community, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Laura Duncan Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. Mr. McCartney had made his home with his sister for the past ten years. --- He was born June 23, 1847, in Crawford county, Ohio, the son of Jacob and Mary McCartney, and served with the 41st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry three years, being discharged December 15, 1864. His marriage to Miss Ann Piggott took place November 29, 1870. She preceded him in death seven years. --- The surviving family include a daughter, Mrs. Edith Winsell, Wilton, three sons, Jesse, Tracy, California; Charles, Spokane, Wash.; and Frank of Lnasing, Mich. Four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Walton, Lakoma, Okla., Mrs. Duncan of Wilton; Mrs. Emma Thompson and Mrs. Stella Hall of Muscatine and two brothers, Robert of Mystic, Iowa, and Paden of Harrisburg, Ill. A son, Fred, died in 1911 and two other children died in infancy. --- Mr. McCartney was a member of Henry Seibert post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Wilton, for many years, and when the post disbanded 16 years ago because of the depleted ranks, he transferred his membership to the Shelby Norman Post, Muscatine. He was also a member of Pulaski Lodge No. 107 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Walter Rebekah Lodge No. 516 and a member of the local Methodist Episcopal church. --- A short funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 followed by services at the Metho¬dist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. W. Gruber, who was assisted by Rev. Jos. M. Newyard, pastor of the Grace Reformed Church. The Lang-Hahn Quartet, with Mrs. Joseph Lang at the piano, sang “Jesus Savior, Pilot Me” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Tenting on the Old Camp Ground.” --- Mrs. Robert Budelier, Mrs. Blanche Summers and Miss Frances Kelley were in charge of the flowers. --- Members of Wilton Post of the American Legion, Leonard Belzer, Ed Harder, Dallas Sterner, Louis Marolf and Herman Thurston and James Jacobs, of Edward Bitzer Post of Muscatine, acted as pall bearers. The Legion Post firing squad fired a salute at the grave in Oakdale cemetery followed by taps blown by Curtis Fryomoyer.

G. H. McCartney Taken by Death. Wilton's Last Survivor of Civil War Succumbs to Old Age, Complications. (Journal News Service.) -- Wilton--George H. McCartney, 87, Wilton's last Civil war veteran, died at 7:30 a.m. today at the home of his sister, Mrs. Bert Duncan, where he had lived for the past 10 years. Death was due to old age with complications. --- Mr. McCartney was born in Crawford county, Ohio, June 23, 1847, the son of Jacob and Mary McCartney. On Nov. 29, 1870, he married Ann Piggott, who preceded him in death seven years ago. --- During the Civil war he served with the 41st regiment of the Wisconsin Volunteer infantry, receiving his discharge Dec. 15, 1864. --- Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Albert Winsell, of Wilton; three sons, Jesse W. of Tracy, Calif., Charles of Spokane, Wash., and Frank of Lansing, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Walton of Lahoma, Okla., Mrs. Duncan of Wilton, and Mrs. Emma Thompson and Mrs. Stella Hall, both of Muscatine; and two brothers, Paden of Harrisburg, Ill., and Robert of Mystic, Ia. --- He was a member of Henry Siebert post of the G.A.R. here until its members gave up their charter 15 years ago and has since been a member of the Muscatine post. He was also a member of Pulaski lodge, No. 107, I.O.O.F., Walter Rebekah, No. 516, and of the Methodist Episcopal church. Funeral arrangements are indefinite.

OBITUARY. Geo. W. McCartneydaed at his home about five miles northeast of Braymer, Tuesday morning, October 22, 1907, aged 79 years, 2 months and 28 days. --- Mr. McCartney was born in Williamsport, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, where he grew to manhood. --- When a young man he came west locating in Iowa. On March 4th, 1857, at Rochester, Iowa, he was married to Miss Rebecca J. Stubblefield. --- To this union were born three children. Only one of them, C. B. McCartney, is living. --- In 1862, Mr. McCartney volunteered to go to the defence of his country. He entered Company G. 35th regiment Iowa Volunteers and served through the war. After the war he returned to Iowa where he made his home most of the time in Cedar county until 1904, when he and his wife came to Missouri and lived with their son near Braymer. --- Mr. McCartney was converted in 1876 and united with the Free Baptist Church near his home in Iowa where he was a member at the time of his decease. He was a good man. --- He leaves his wife, son, grandchildren and other relatives and friends to mourn his departure from this life. --- Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, 1907, conducted by Rev. W. H. Owen, assisted by Rev. Albert R. Sitton, after which all that was mortal of Mr. Geo. W. McCartney was tenderly and lovingly laid to rest in the beautiful Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. McCartney of Wilton Is Called in Death - Wilton - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Griffith Funeral home for Mrs. Julia Parlett McCartney, 86, a resident of Wilton for 56 years, whose death occurred Saturday morning. The Rev. B. H. Finch, pastor of the Wilton Methodist church, officiated. Interment was in the Oakdale cemetery at Wilton. --- Mrs. McCartney died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Helen Burns nursing home in West Liberty where she had lived for the past six years. Death followed a lengthy illness. --- She was born in What Cheer, Ia., Dec. 30, 1863, and her marriage to James B. McCartney of Wilton took place Feb. 2, 1888. For many years, she operated a restaurant in Wilton. Mrs. McCartney was a member of the Wilton Methodist church, the Henry Siebert Women's Relief Corps No. 212, American Legion Auxiliary unit No. 584 and Walter Rebecca lodge No. 516. --- She is survived by one son, Edward Jay McCartney, address unknown. OBITUARY. Mary Harrison Harmon was born in Columbiana county, O., December 3, 1826, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stella Hall, in Muscatine, Ia., January 18th, 1916, at the age of 89 years. --- She spent her girlhood days in Ohio and was married in Columbiana county, O., March 21, 1884, to Jacob R. McCartney. In 1852 the family moved from Ohio to Illinois, near Illinois City, where they lived three years moving to Cedar county, Ia. where they spent ten years. --- In December 1865, Mr. and Mrs. McCartney moved to Wilton, which place has been her home since that time. --- Mr. and Mrs. McCartney celebrated their golden wedding at their home in Wilton, March 21, 1894 at which time all their children with the exception of two were present. --- Her husband Jacob R. McCartney passed away in Wilton, Ia., December 5, 1896. --- Mrs. McCartney leaves to mourn their loss eight children, four, having died in infancy. The surviving children are: Mary E. Walton of Hennessy, Okla., Padan A. McCartney of Milan, Mo., James B. McCartney of St. Louis, Mo., Robert C. McCartney of Mystic, Ia., Mrs. Stella Hall of Muscatine, Ia., and George H. McCartney, Mrs. Emma Thompson and Mrs. Laura Duncan, all of Wilton. Mother McCartney leaves thirty-three grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. At the time of her death she was the mother of five generations all living. --- At a very early age Mrs. McCartney united with the Free Will Baptist church in Cedar county, Ia., and all her life she remained a faithful and devoted member of the same. --- The family and friends feel very keenly the bereavement of her death, as through all the years of her life she was patient and cheerful and no contribution of time or strength was withheld by her from her dear ones and all who knew her. --- She retained her consciousness to the last and even in her closing hours left messages to all her dear ones, in which hope and love and kindness were manifested, until quietly and peacefully her soul “returned unto God who gave it.”

Funeral services were held at the Grace Reformed church at Wilton at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. I. Lau. --- The pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased—Lester Duncan, Ora Hall, Edward McCartney, Albert Winsell, Glen Cromer and Carl Lark. Interment was made in Oakdale cemetery January 20th, 1916.

OCTOGENARIAN DIES AT DAUGHTERS HOME. MRS. MARY McCARTNEY IS VICTIM OF GRIPPE. Was Old Resident of Muscatine County, Having Come Here from Ohio Half a Century Ago.--- Mrs. Mary McCartney, age 89, passed away about 6:30 this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Hall, 822 Leroy street, death being due to a complication of the grippe, and illnesses concurrent with old age. One week ago she was taken down with the grippe, and so severe was the attack, that she failed rapidly, becoming weaker and weaker, until the tender thread of life was broken. --- Mrs. McCartney was an old resident of this county, having come here over a half a century ago with her husband, from Ohio, settling near Wilton, on a farm where they resided until about seventeen years ago, when Mr. McCartney was called by death. Shortly after her bereavement she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Laura Duncan, also near Wilton and resided there until one year ago, when she came to this city taking up her abode with her daughter, Mrs. William Hall, at the residence of whom she passed away. --- Eight children are left to mourn her death. Four sons, George McCartney of Wilton; Padan of Milan, Mo.; James of St. Louis, Mo.; and Robert C., of Mystic, Iowa; and four daughters, Miss Stella McCartney of this city; Mrs. Elizabeth Walton of Lahoma, Okla.; Mrs. Emma Thompson and Mrs. Laura Duncan of Wilton. The remains will be shipped to Wilton, where the funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Grace Reformed church. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery at Wilton.

He worked here as a meat cutter for many years, going to Illinois a few years ago to make his home with his daughter after the death of his wife and son.

McCartney long resided in Milan, leaving here soon after the death of his wife. He had since made his home with his daughter. He was a meat cutter by trade and was well known in Milan and community.

Muscatine, Iowa - ALMA MARIE MCCARTY, 93, formerly of 902 E. Eighth St., died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Muscatine General Hospital. Services will be Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 417 Green St., Muscatine. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Burial will be in Muscatine memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Mrs. McCarty had a teaching career that spanned 41 years. She taught in rural schools for eight years and also taught 13 years at St. Mary's School in Muscatine. She retired from Lincoln Elementary School in 1972 but continued to do substitute teaching for 14 years after her retirement. She was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Lake Township, Muscatine, to Charles M. and Agnes (Hickey) King. She married Lawrence A. McCarty on Oct. 7, 1930, at St. Mary's Church in Muscatine. He died Aug. 15, 1972. She had ben a life resident of Muscatine. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Catholic Guild. She also was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and was active on the national, state and local level. In addition to her teaching, she was active in school and civic activities. She served as president of St. Mary's PTA and for years was active in Cub Scout work. Survivors include sons, Robert L. McCarty, Lisle, Ill., James C. McCarty, Newark, Del., and Thomas J. McCarty, Davenport; a daughter, Dorothy Jean (Mrs. Gerald) McKinney, Davenport; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Margaret Strutsman, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Dorothy Lorber and Catherine Furlong.

Frederick McClaren. - Pneumonia was the cause of the death of Frederick McClaren, a former resident of this city, who passed away at St. Anthony’s hospital, Rock Island, yesterday. He had been ill for nine days. He was 40 years old. --- Frederick McClaren, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Andrew McClaren, was born in Muscatine in September, 1879. He spent the greater part of his life here. He was an employe of the Rock Island arsenal for more than four years. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Deanna loved playing bingo and going to the riverboat. She operated Flowers of Rae making wedding and anniversary flowers. Death of D. C. McCloud.----Yesterday afternoon at four o'clock occurred the death of Hon. D. G. McCloud, one of Muscatine county's oldest and most popular citizens, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Job Rankin, on East Fourth street. For some time past his family and friends have felt that the end was drawing near and they were in a measure prepared for the sad intelligence. Some months ago he retired from active duties and farm life and took up his abode in this city. Shortly afterwards he was taken ill, and has been confined to his bed ever since. At times he would rally and there were great hopes of his recovery, but these improvements in his condition were only temporary. For a week or more he has been failing gradually, and at four o'clock his spirit took its flight to its eternal home. The deceased was born in Franklin county, Ohio, August 11, 1818, consequently he was in his seventy-first year of life. When but 18 years of age he removed to Warsaw, Ill., and three years later, in 1839, came to Muscatine county, where he has resided ever since. He was a plasterer by trade, which avocation he followed until in 1853, when he was elected Sheriff of this county, which position he listed with credit to himself and the county for four years. At that time the county jail was nothing more than an old cabin. Upon retiring from office he engaged in farming in Lake township, and followed this pursuit until last year when he retired to try city life. In 1872, he was elected to the Legislature, serving one term. On the 18th of July, 1849, he was married to Miss Phoebe Chattaway, who survives him. Eight children were born to them, all of whom except the eldest, a daughter, Mrs. Aramanda V. Barnard, who died several years ago at Chester, Ill., survive him. The other children are: Cynthian M., wife of Chas. S. Miller, of Fruitland township; Cora W., wife of J. W. Rankin, of this city; George D., of Lewiston, Idaho; Bjon C., of St. Louis; Anna G., wife of Frank McBride, of Lake township; Emma E., wife of Albert McBride, of Boston; Abbey P., wife of John Hitchcock, of Lake township. All of the family were at home except George, who is on his way here, being expected to arrive Sunday night or Monday morning, and Mrs. Emma E. McBride, who is in Boston, and owing to illness in the family is unable to come. The deceased was a member of the M. E. church, of Lake township, and of the I. O. O. F. He was an industrious, energetic and honorable citizen, and one who had a host of friends, all of whom will regret to learn of his death. His funeral will probably not occur until next Monday.

Died. McCloud – At the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.W. Rankin, on east Eighth street, Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1894, of dropsical ailment, Pheobe C. Cattaway, widow of the late D.G. McCloud, aged 71 years, 1 month and 21 days. The deceased had been in poor health for the past year and for the last ten weeks was confined to the house with dropsical trouble. The end came peacefully to the venerable woman at the early hour of 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning. Mrs. McCloud was a native of England and came to America when 14 years of age and resided in Cincinnati for two years. In 1848 she came to Muscatine, where she was united in marriage with D.G. McCloud, July 18, 1849. They resided in the city until 1857, when they removed to a farm in Lake township, residing there until the fall of 1888, when they again took up residence in Muscatine. Mr. McCloud died in March, 1889, and since that time Mrs. McCloud had made her home with her children. The deceased was a devoted member of the Methodist church, and was a woman of strong Christian character. A loving mother, true friend and kind neighbor has departed, and her death will be sincerely mourned. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCloud, of whom six survive. They are: Mrs. Charles Miller and Mrs. J.W. Rankin, of Muscatine; George D., of Spokane Falls, Wash.; Bion, of Chester, Ill.; Mrs. Frank McBride, of Seventy-six township, and Mrs. John Hitchcock, of Lake township. The time of the funeral has not yet been announced."

WEST LIBERTY - John T. McCOLM, 89, retired Muscatine County farmer died Wednesday morning in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness. --- He was born near Letts, on Aug. 5, 1900, the son of Louis and Margaret ESTLE-McCOLM. On Aug. 20 1930, he was married at Muscatine, to the former Thelma VINCENT. --- McCOLM had farmed near Atalissa all of his life, retiring in 1970, when he moved to West Liberty. The past year he had made his home at the Lutheran Homes in Muscatine. He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masonic lodge, and a member of the Kaaba Shrine in Davenport.--- Survivors include one sister, Mildred HOUVERTER of Bellevue, Wash., and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, and one brother. --- Services will be Saturday at the West Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Thompson, and Rev. Robert Ahlstrom officiating. Burial will be at the Letts Cemetery, Letts under the arrangements of of the Barker Funeral Home.

McCOLM DIES SUDDENLY ------------ WELL-KNOWN MUSCATINE WOMAN SUCCUMBED DURING NIGHT ------------ Was Stricken With Paralysis in December Had Been in Invalid State Since That Time ------------ Muscatine was shocked this morning to learn of the death of Mrs. Sarah A. McColm, the wife of J. L. McColm, one of the most prominent business men of the city, which occurred shortly after 1 o'clock this morning. While the well-known woman had been in an invalid state since early in the winter, still her condition was not serious, and while her illness assumed a critical form last evening, it was not even known among her large circle of friends that her condition was serious, and when it was learned early today that she had passed this life, the loss could hardly be realized. Mrs. McColm, during her long residence here enjoyed the respect and esteem of an extensive acquaintanceship. While she never aspired for position, still she occupied a prominent place in the local church, literary and social circles for years. She was active until last winter, but an attack of paralysis which she suffered in December, and which brought about her demise, rendered it impossible for her to further engage in her former activities. Miss Sarah A. Pollock, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Pollock, was born in Muscatine county on January 20, 1846, and was educated in this city. She attended the local city schools and was graduated from the Muscatine High school. On August 22, 1856, she was united in marriage to James L. McColm. Dr. George N. Powers, pastor of the Methodist church, performing the ceremony. The union was a happy one, and three children were born to them, one daughter, Cora, dying in infancy. Her loss is mourned by her husband and two sons, Charles P. McColm, of Flushing, N.Y., and Edward L. McColm, of this city. One sister, Mrs. Ellis J. Ady, of Atalissa, Iowa, also survives. As a wife and mother, Mrs. McColm presided over the home in a loving and dutiful manner and her loss is one most keenly felt by the immediate family, and the sorrow occasioned by her death being intensified by its suddenness. Mrs. McColm was for many years one of the most prominent members of the First Methodist Episcopal church. She was an active member of several of the societies within the church, and while she withdrew from an active position some time ago, still she always evidenced the greatest interest in the welfare of the church organizations. She was also a charter member of the Twentieth Century club. No arrangements have as yet been made for the funeral.

J. Newton McCONNAHA, retired farmer, died today at his home, 607 Woodlawn avenue, after an extended illness.--- He was born in Muscatine county Jan. 27, 1861, the son of John and Rebecca HAGEN-McCONNAHA, and his marriage to Mary CORNELIA took place Feb. 28, 1883 at Muscatine. He was of the Methodist faith. With the exception of 11 years in Nebraska, he spent all of his life in Muscatine county.--- Preceding him in death was his wife, who died just 13 years ago, Aug. 18; and four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include two sons, Aaron, of Muscatine, and David, route 4; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth SATTERTHWAITE of Muscatine, Mrs. Bessie KING, Wilton, and Mrs. Rachel GODDARD, route 4; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. --- The body was taken to the Fairbanks Home for Funerals and services will be held there Monday with Dr. Joseph M. Kennedy, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, in charge. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

MRS. McCONNAHA, AGED 73 YEARS, CALLED TO DEATH. Mrs. Mary Cornelia McConnaha, aged 73, of 607 Woodlawn avenue, died at Hershey hospital at 10 a.m. today. She was taken ill Wednesday night. --- Mrs. McConnaha was born in Muscatine county Oct. 8, 1863, and had resided here her entire life with the exception of 11 years spent in Nebraska. She was married to Newton McConnaha on Feb. 28, 1883, at Muscatine, and was a member of the Methodist church. --- Surviving are her husband and the following children: Mrs. Elizabeth Satterthwaite of Muscatine; Mrs. Bessie King, Wilton; David McConnaha and Mrs. Rachel Goddard, rural route 4; and Aaron McConnaha of Muscatine. Nine grandsons also survive. --- The body will be returned to the residence at 607 Woodlawn avenue tonight at 7 o'clock. Private rites will be held there Sunday at 2 p.m., followed by services at the Hoffman Funeral church at 2:30. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

LeRoy S. McCoy Death Occurs at Home at Wilton---Wilton.----LeRoy Scott McCoy, 69, died at his home here at 11:30 p.m. Friday after a short illness. He was the son of George S. and Mary E. Searl? McCoy, born March 18, 1886 at Adair, Ia. He has been a resident of Wilton for 55 years. On March 22, 1911, he married Lorena Lang at Wilton. He has been a member of the Izaac Wilton League, the Wilton fire department and had served as peace officer for 25 years. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Schneckloth, Miss Marjorie McCoy, and Miss Elizabeth McCoy, all of Wilton; four brothers, Orren of Sioux City; Lucian of Casey, Ia.; Everett of Chicago; and Alfred of Loveland, Colo., and four grandchildren. Orville M. McCracken, 80, 409 W. 6th St., died Sunday, June 23, 1991, at the Muscatine Care Center. Services will be Tuesday, June 25, at the Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Nate Schroder will officiate. Pallbearers will be Casey Oberly, Rod Butler, Joel Daniel, Eric Daniel, Loren Jarrett and Brian McCracken. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McCracken was born Dec. 15, 1910, at Tipton, Iowa, a son of William and Margaret Duncan McCracken. He had lived in the area for most of his life. He married Anna L. Fry, on Oct. 26, 1940, in Davenport. Survivors include his wife, Anna; one son, William A. McCracken, of Muscatine; three daughters, Joyce Butler and Mrs. Donald (Martha) Marx, both of Muscatine; and Phyllis Daniel of West Chicago, Ill; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. His parents, three brothers, one sister and one daughter precede him in death. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He retired in 1976, after 35 years of employment at Wendling Quarry, as a heavy equipment operator.

Mrs. McCray was born July 29, 1920, in Illinois City, Ill., a daughter of Joseph and Lottie Estabrook Thomas. She was a life resident of the area. MRS. McCullough Long-time County Resident, Dies------- Mrs. Anna E. McCullough, 87, died at 2:45 p.m. Friday at the Hershey Convalescent home after an extended illness. Her home was at 315 Sycamore street. The daughter of Hiram and Ann Gay Bliven, she was born July 24, 1868, in Louisa county. She had been a resident of Muscatine county since 1891 and of Muscatine since 1922. She was married to Alex McCullough Jan. 27, 1886, at Conesville, and for many years the couple lived on a farm near Conesville. Mr. McCullough died in December of 1942. Mrs. McCullough was a member of the First Methodist church and of the Martha class of the church. Surviving are a son, F. G. McCullough, New Providence, Ia.; a daughter, Mrs. Lura Tipton, Muscatine; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Gelatt, Fort Madison; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday in the chapel of the Fairbanks Home for Funerals with the Rev. A. D. Steflenson, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Conesville cemetery.

Mrs. McCune was born Dec. 29, 1881, at Petersburg, Ill., the daughter of David and Margaret Neff. She was married to Robert McCune on March 22, 1905, at Petersburg, Ill. She had been a resident of Muscatine since 1922, and was a member of the Mulford Congregational church. Survivors include one son, Warren E. McCune, of Muscatine; two daughters, Gladys McCune and Mrs. Margaret Rummery, both of Muscatine; two brothers, Martin Neff of Wichita, Kans., and Park Neff of Delta City, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Homer Hull of Hanna, Ind. and Mrs. John Hughell of Batavia, Ia., and three grandchildren. McCurdy Rites Are Conducted---Services Held at Conesville Church for Former Muscatine County Sheriff.---Funeral services for Daniel McCurdy, former Muscatine county sheriff who died at the Lutheran home Saturday, were conducted at 12:45 at the home this afternoon by the Rev. William Klein, of the home, and at 2 o'clock at the Reformed church at Conesville by the Rev. Jasman. Burial was in the Conesville cemetery. Daniel McCurdy was the son of Robert and Elizabeth McCurdy and was born in Coshocton county, O., Feb. 19, 1845. As a young man he taught school for several terms in Coshocton county. In 1868 his parents with their six children, Daniel, Rebecca, Cass, Wilson, Minerva and Allen, moved to a farm north of Conesville. In 1870 Mr. McCurdy married Minnie Hardman. Six children were born to them, Albert, Elsie, Lula, Cass, Maude and Glenn. Mrs. McCurdy died in 1888 and in 1892 he was married to Ina Estella Heath. At that time the family moved to Muscatine where Mr. McCurdy was elected and served as sheriff of this county for two years. He then entered business here. Later he went to Missouri. Five children were born of the second marriage, Bertha, Zula, Robert, Wilson and Jeannette. His second wife died in 1925. Six years ago he went to make his home at the Lutheran home. Three months ago he was stricken with paralysis. Death occurred at 3:30 Saturday afternoon. Surviving there are five children, Albert, Chicago; Mrs. Mayde Nyenhuis, Paris, France; Mrs. Bertha Shoquist, Lone Tree; Wilson, of the United States Navy stationed at Panama; and Mrs. Jeanette Eastland, Chicago; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minerva Moffit, Madison, S. D., and Mrs. Rebecca Jones, Sioux Falls, S. D.; one brother, Allen, Conesville.

Oldest Resident Taken by Death---Mrs. Sarah McCurdy Dies at Conesville Sunday at Age of 92 Years.---Conesville--Mrs. Sarah McCurdy, 92, oldest resident of Conesville, died at her home in this city at 9:40 a.m. Sunday after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held at Grace Reformed church Tuesday afternoon. She was born Sarah Norris, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Norris, Jan. 9, 1840, near Bedford, Coshocton county, Ohio. She came to Conesville in her early womanhood and shortly after her arrival here married Alex McCurdy. Four children were born to this union, three of whom survive, C. W. and Scott McCurdy, both of Des Moines and Mrs. Nannie Chappel, of Springfield, Mo. She is also survived by five sisters, Mrs. Rachael Wamsley of South Dakota, Mrs. Millie Magruder of Lone Tree. CHARLES R. MCDANIEL, 60, a life resident of Muscatine, died Friday morning at his home on Park Plaza following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Monday at the Riley Funeral Home. Rev. Keith R. Sorenson will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. McDaniel was born in Muscatine, Nov. 10, 1913, the son of Charles and Grace Maude Richardson McDaniel, Sr. He married Vivian Beatty March 16, 1934, in Muscatine. He was a mechanic at the M and M Ford Garage here for several years. He was a member of the Iowa Lodge No. 2, A.F. and A.M., the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Muscatine Power Boat club and Muskie Campers. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth of Muscatine and James of Baroda, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. John (Jackie) Barclay, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Curtis and Mrs. Darlene Ruggles, all of Muscatine; his wife, Vivian; a brother, Raymond of Cambria, Cal.; and 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, a son and a brother and sister in infancy.

JAMES LEROY MCDANIEL, 49, 609 Walnut St., died Tuesday, April 5, 1994, at his home. Services are Friday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, with Capt. Joseph Wheeler of the Minneapolis Salvation Army officiating. Burial will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born June 8, 1944, at Muscatine to Charles and Vivian Beatty McDaniel. He married Jean Kridler on April 14, 1967, at Rock Island, Ill. Mr. McDaniel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for Monsanto for 17 years. Survivors include four daughters, Jamie (Mrs. Chester) Walker of Fruitland, Vicki McDaniel of Sturgis, Mich., Teletha Wheeler and Tina (Mrs. John) Whitcomb both of Muscatine; two sons, Capt. Joseph Wheeler of Brooklyn Park, Minn. and Robert Wheeler of Holland, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Vivian Faulkner of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Kenneth McDaniel of Muscatine; and three sisters, Jackie (Mrs. John) Barclay, Ruth (Mrs. Bob) Curtis and Darlene Ruggles, all of Muscatine. Swayze, Muscatine county medical examiner, said McDaniel died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A son of Charles R. and Vivian Beatty McDaniel, he was born Dec. 19, 1942, in Muscatine. He was a life resident here. His marriage to Karen Clark took place Oct. 22, 1962, in Yokosuka, Japan. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1959-63. Mr. McDaniel was an auxiliary operator at Muscatine Power and Water the past three and one half years.

MRS. C. L. McDERMID, died at her home, 515 Woodlawn avenue, at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, from cerebral hemorrhage. She was 84 years old. Caroline Letitia Vernon Busby, a daughter of Captain Samuel Law Busby of the English Army, and Eliza H. Wheeler, Isle of Wright, England, was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in August, 1840. Later with her family she came to America, where she became the wife of Rev. Duncan McDermid of Woodstock, Ontario, who died in Muscatine January 10, 1897. Mrs. McDermid is survived by her son, D. S. McDermid, 901 West Third street; a step-daughter, Miss Margaret McDermid, 901 West Third street; a granddaughter, Mrs. Margaret Mull of Yakima, Wash.; a grandson, D. H. McDermid, of Billings Mont.; and a sister, Miss Alice B. Busby, 515 Woodlawn avenue. Private funeral services will be held from the home of D. S. McDermid Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. Webster Hakes, rector of the Trinity Episcopal church, of which she was a member. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

The funeral services of Rev. Duncan McDermid, were held this morning at his late residence on Woodlawn avenue and were wll attended. The ceremonies were conducted by Rev. G. M. D. Slocum and Rev. S. H. Parvin, who paid a just tribute to the memory of deceased. The Pallbearers were Rev. Fath, of the German Congregational church; Rev. J. W. Hackley, First M. E. church; Rev. Ross, German M. E. church; Rev. M. W. Burtner, United Brethren church; Rev. J. C. Kendrick, Methodist church; and Rev. A. Fowler, of the Baptist church. The floral offerings were very suggestive and beautiful in the extreme, coming from friends of the family not knowing his expressed wishes, and yet desiring to pay this tribute to the memory of one whom they held in high esteem. An obituary of the deceased will follow in our next issue.--------OBITUARY........Muscatine Journal, January 12, 1897------ The subject of this sketch, Rev. Duncan McDermid, who entered into his rest last Friday afternoon was a native of Canada, and had reached the ripe age of 72 years at the time of his decease. Before coming to this country he was for many years pastor of the Chalmers Presbyterian church of his boyhood home. His early training and education were of a Calvinistic type, and hence we find him until recent years serving the Presbyterian churches of our commonwealth. Through the long period of his ministry he held pastorates at Marengo, Dunlap, Fontanelle, Iowa; Amite, Louisiana, besides doing missionary work in Minnesota. His last pastoral service preceding the close of his active ministry, was in supplying the Congregational churches of Preston and Sabula, in this state. He came to Muscatine to spend his closing years near his children and erected a modest residence on Woodlawn avenue, where he was living at the time of his summons to the mansion above. Before uniting with Pilgrim church he visited the pastor's home at intervals, and since his membership he occupied our pulpit, and on the Sunday following Thanksgiving he preached one of the most tender and helpful sermons that it has been our privilege to hear for many a year. The congregation will remember that discourse. The last conversation had with him was three weeks ago Sunday night, when he attended our evening services. On being asked to go upon the platform and offer the opening prayer, he excused himself saying that he was not well and preferred to occupy a pew and that I must not be surprised if he should leave before the close of the sermon. He also explained he felt his growing infirmities and regretted that he would be unable to assist in a series of special meetings, as he had hoped to do. It seemed then from the tenor of his talk that he regarded his preaching days as almost ended. His pastor never saw him again until consciousness had departed and but a short time before the spirit took it's flight. He was a plain, earnest, positive and scholarly preacher, and had the happy faculty of putting truth in logical form. He made points and the simplest listeners understood him. He had little sympathy with the so-called advanced theology of our day, and while he was well versed in the ancient classics, he never, like some, paraded cheap Greek and Hebrew simply for display. The congregation and pastor of Pilgrim church will miss him and his helpful discourses. For one so devoid of pride or ostentation, it is not surprising that he requested that his obsequies be simple---without singing, flowers or obituary. Besides his widow, Mrs. Caroline L. V. McDermid, who will continue to reside at the homestead, and her son, D. S. McDermid, in the employ of Huttig Mfg Co., he leaves behind to mourn his loss, Miss M. R. McDermid, a daughter of his first wife, a nephew, Dr. P. McDermid, of Fontanelle, Iowa, whose wife was present at the funeral; also a sister-in-law, Miss Allie D. Busby, well known in this city, who at present is a teacher man Indian school in Santa Fe., New Mexico. Like the partiarchs of old he has been gathered unto his fathers. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.

Sudden Illness Proves Fatal to D. S. McDermid------Duncan S. McDermid, 77, who had been associated in business in Muscatine the past 50 years, died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage while seated in an automobile in front of the Cherry St. fire station Friday at 4:15 p.m. He resided at 901 West Third street. Mr. McDermid was born in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, Oct. 14, 1861, the son of Rev. Duncan McDermid and Carolyn Busby McDermid. His father was a native of Canada and his mother was born in Cape Town, Africa. Mr. McDermid was married to Henrietta Brown on June 6, 1894, and she survives. His wife by a first marriage on Sept. 1, 1886, the former Nellie Huttig, preceded him in death in January 1892. Mr. McDermid was a charter and life member of Muscatine Lodge No. 304 B. P. O. Elks. Surviving are his wife, one son, Duncan Harold McDermid of Knoxville, Tenn,; and a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Mull, of Yakima, Wash. Funeral services will be conducted Monday from the Fairbanks Home for Funerals chapel, with Dr. David I. Berger, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. The body will be taken to the family home late today and will be returned to the Fairbanks Home for Funerals Monday afternoon for final rites.

Mrs. McDermid Succumbs After Extended Illness------Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta McDermid will be conducted Tuesday at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals by Dr. Joseph M. Kennedy, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Mrs. McDermid, widow of D. S. McDermid, passed away at Bellvue hospital Saturday night after a long illness. Her home was at 901 West Third street. A lifelong resident of Muscatine, Henrietta Wilbur Brown was born on March 1, 1874, the daughter of Henry Wilbur, and Elvira Brown Wilbur. Her youth was spent on the historical Weed estate here. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1892 and was married to D. S. McDermid on June 6, 1894. During World War No. 1, she was extremely active in production work of the Red Cross, being in charge of the sewing. For the past 25 years she had been recording secretary for the W. B. A. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and filled various offices in the church. Surviving are a daughter, Margaret M. Mull, at home; a stepson, Duncan H. McDermid, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a sister, Mrs. Frederick F. Church, Ridgefield, Conn.

McDermid.-----Miss Margaret Reddie Mary McDermid, 78, a resident of Muscatine for the past 40 years, died at midnight Wednesday at the home of her brother, D. S. McDermid, 901 West Third street, with whom she made her home. Death came after a lingering illness. Miss McDermid was born Jan. 10, 1855 at Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the Rev. Duncan and Margaret Laing McDermid. Her mother died in infancy and she spent her girlhood with an uncle and aunt, the Rev. and Mrs. John Laing at Hamilton, Ontario. For the past 40 years she had made her home with her brother. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. S. McDermid and a nephew, D. H. McDermid of Muscatine, a niece, Mrs. Margaret M. Mull of Yakima, Wash., and several cousins in Canada. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. J. B. Rendall of the First Presbyterian church at the McDermid home, 901 West Third street. The body was removed from the George Wittich Funeral home on Cedar street to the home today. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery.

Miss Mary Elizabeth McDOUGALL, teacher and principal in the Muscatine school system for many years, died Tuesday at her home, 511 West Second street, following an illness of three months. --- The daughter of James and Jane McCULLOCH-McDOUGALL, she was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Muscatine since a small child. She graduated from Muscatine high school and studied at the State University of Iowa. She taught in the public schools here and was principal at McKinley and Lincoln schools for a number of years. She retired in 1937. --- Surviving are two sisters, Miss Jennie McDOUGALL of Muscatine and Mrs. Lillie STOLL of Green River, Wyo.; and a brother, Fred W. McDOUGALL of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert and James, and one sister, Mrs. Anna BARR. --- The body has been taken to the Fairbanks Home for Funerals. Funeral Rites Set Wednesday For O. J. McElroy---Funeral services for Orrie J. McElroy, 68, of 405 Lee street, who died Sunday evening apparently from the effects of motor gas fumes, will be conducted Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral home by the Rev. Caleb Larson. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery. Firemen were summoned with a resuscitator shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday after Mr. McElroy was found in a truck by a son-in-law, Don Ziegenhorn. Efforts to revive him proved futile. Police officers who were summoned said that the ignition key was found turned on in the truck, and that a quantity of gasoline remained in the tank. Dr. I.H. Odell, Muscatine coroner, was advised and conducted an investigation. The death was listed by the coroner as an apparent suicide. No inquest will be conducted, he said. Mr. McElroy was reported to have been in failing health for the past six months. He was born May 12, 1887 in Muscatine county, being a son of James W. and Effie Johnson McElroy and had been a life resident of the community. He married Stella Larson June 23, 1909. Surviving are a son, Virgil McElroy and a daughter, Mrs. Donald Ziegenhorn, both of Muscatine; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Sick, also of Muscatine; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and a sister. The body will remain at the funeral home pending services.

Robert McElroy------ Robert E. McElroy, 79, of 38 Albany Park, died early Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1991 at Muscatine General hospital, following a brief illness. Services will be Friday, Dec. 20 at St. Mathias Catholic Church. Organist will be Vada Timm. Pallbearers will be Al Willroth, Richard Noll, Bernard Noll, Steve Frye, Bill Frye and Gary Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Jens, Douglas Stolley, Rick Crews, Barb Crews and Trisha Jens. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. McElroy was born July 31, 1912, in Muscatine to James and Nora Hill McElroy. He was a life long resident here. He attended the University of Iowa and was a letter winner in track. He married Dorothy Fry Roland on July 8 1957 at Sioux City. He was an active member of the University of Iowa Letterman's Club, a member of the Hawkeye Track Club and a life member of Elks Lodge No. 304 of Muscatine. He was an avid fisherman. He had worked for many years as a salesman for Lagomarcino Groupe Company and C. L. Mull and Son. He retired from Grain Processing Corp. in 1977. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; one son, James McElroy, and one daughter Cynthia Merritt both of Biloxi, Miss,; one stepson, Ron Roland of Springfield, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Judy Otto of Muscatine, and Nancy Stolley of Moline Ill.; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Beatrice McElroy, Glenola McElroy and Grace McElroy, all of Tucson, Ariz. Mrs. Ella McEvoy , 74, of 1428 Park Ave., died Sunday at Muscatine General hospital. A resident of Sweetland Twp. most of her life, Mrs. McEvoy had lived in Muscatine the past three years. The daughter of Joseph and Josephine Binz Womochel, she was born Aug. 21, 1892, at Muscatine. She was married Jan. 22, 1913, at Muscatine, to Frank B. McEvoy. He died in September of 1963. Mrs. McEvoy is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Duane Egel, Rt. 3; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Van Zyle of Muscatine and Mrs. L. E. Fengler of Houghton, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers. Rev. Henry Teele of the First Methodist church will conduct services Wednesday at the Fairbanks chapel. Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery.

He was born here Feb. 11, 1886, the son of John and Margaret Grelle McEvoy. He was married Jan. 22, 1913, at Muscatine, to Ella Womochel. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ella McEvoy; one daughter, Mrs. Duane Egel of Wilton; and a sister, Miss Helen McEvoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Fairbanks chapel, with Rev. Edwin Frohardt in charge. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.

John McEvoy , 78, 133 Roscoe avenue, died Friday at Bellevue hospital here, death being caused by old age and complications. Mr. McEvoy was born in 1859 in Cedar county, Iowa. He married Margaret Grelle at the St. Mary's church in Muscatine in 1884, the Rev. J. I. Greiser performing the ceremony. His wife preceded him in death in 1916. Surviving are one son, Frank McEvoy of Sweetland township; four daughters, Mrs. Florence Bermel of Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. May Connell and Mrs. Elizabeth Hinrichs, both of Bloomington township, and Sister Mary Magdalita of Clinton, Ia.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Sherry of Oklahoma City, Okla., and a brother, Peter McEvoy of Moline, Ill. Three children preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Monday from St. Mathias church. Mrs. John M’Evoy Goes to Reward----- Mrs. John McEvoy of 409 Pine street, died this morning shortly before 8 o'clock following an illness of more than a year's duration. Mrs. McEvoy has been confined to her bed since March 2 with compound scorosis of the spinal cord and for the last week has been sinking rapidly. The deceased was born in Muscatine, April 27, 1860, and lived almost all her life in this county. When she was six years old, her parents moved to a farm in Sweetland township. On March 1, the family moved to Muscatine and she was taken seriously ill the day after. She is survived by her husband and six children, Mrs. J. D. Connell of Bloomington township; Frank McEvoy of Sweetland township, and Walter, Elizabeth, Florence and Helen McEvoy of Muscatine. Mrs. McEvoy is also survived by three brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be held from St. Mathias Catholic church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock with the Rev. Father F. J. Leonard officiating. Interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.

Atalissa, Ia., March 31. – Andrew McFadden was born December 25, 1870, near Aledo, Ill., and died at his home near Atalissa, Ia., March 28, aged 50 years, 3 months and 3 days, after a long illness with cancer. ----- He was a son of Margaret (Conley) and John McFadden. He lived in Illinois until 1902, farming the old homestead, and attended the Marsh school in his youth. ----- His sister, Mary, was his housekeeper and close companion after the death of his parents until 1902, when they moved to Iowa. They both married in 1906. ----- His wife, Mae (Moylan) McFadden and two sons, Lyell aged 13, and Edward aged 6, are left to mourn. His brothers, who live in Iowa, are John of Atalissa, William of New London, Edward of Letts, and George of Plummer, Ida., and a sister, Mrs. Mary McCarty of Muscatine. ----- His Illinois friends came to express their respect for him and sympathy for his family by their presence at his funeral. ----- The requiem mass was celebrated at West Liberty, March 30, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near that city. Father Kissane preached the funeral sermon. ----- Those attending from Illinois were Miss Mary Conley of Monmouth, and Mrs. Kate Barnes of Pre-emption, who are cousins of the deceased; Mrs. Kate Schultz and husband of Galesburg, Miss Agnes McCarty of Edgington; Ed. Martha McFadden----- COLUMBIA, Mo. - Martha Anita McFadden, 89, former Muscatine resident, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Lenoir Nursing Home, Columbia. The Rev. Troy Richmond will officiate the services. Casket bearers are her nephews. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Muscatine, with military rites provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1565. She was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Edward J. and Ida Williams McFadden. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Davenport, in 1937. She worked at Bellevue Hospital prior to enlisting in the service. She retired in 1971, as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army after having served 30 years as an Army nurse. She served in the South West Pacific Area during World War II and also served post war in Austria and Italy. She was a retired member of the Officers Association, a retired member of the Army Nurse Corp Association, a member of the American Legion and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Survivors include three sisters, Margaret Furlong of Moline, Ill., Lois Lawrence and husband Mike of Muscatine and Jean Souchek of Columbia. A private gathering and ceremony will be held at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Rev. Sharon Phillips will officiate the services. His body will be cremated at a later date. Mr. McGowan was born Aug. 22, 1955, in Muscatine, the son of David and Dorothy Foster McGowan. He married Marge Long Sept. 1, 1977, in Muscatine. He later married Rhonda Smith. He graduated from Muscatine High School. He worked for several years at Grain Processing Co., Muscatine. More recently, he had worked at Fabricator Plus, Muscatine. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, especially crappie tournaments. He was a writer for Big River Outdoors. He was saved and baptized at Fruitland Baptist Church in 1977. He loved his kids and loved playing with his grandkids. Survivors included his father, David McGowan of Muscatine; his mother, Dorothy Simmons of Muscatine; three daughters, Lori Bassett of Muscatine, April Templeton of Donnellson and Tracy McGowan of New Boston, Ill.; two sons, Richard Petty of Wapello and Scott McGowan of Nichols; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce McGowan of Wapello and Darren McGowan of Nichols; and his companion, Rhonda Smith-McGowan. NEW BERLIN, Ill. - FRANCIS P. MCGOWAN, 83, formerly of Nichols and Sarasota, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at St. John's Hospital. The Rev. Robert J. Jallas at St. Agnes Church and the Rev. Theo D'Cunha at St. Martha's Church will officiate. The Staab Funeral Home of Springfield, Ill. is in charge of local arrangements. Burial will be in the Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota. Francis was born March 13, 1921 in Nichols, the son of Aylette Thayer and Mary Huber McGowan. He married Edith Bennett and she preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 1999. Francis was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was also an electrical engineer for Cook Electric, Sangamo Electric and Schlumberger Electric. He was a member of St. Martha's Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed bicycling and participating in the Senior Olympics. Francis was a former member of the Abe Lincoln Gun Club and was a competitive trap shooter and cyclist. Survivors include three daughters, Jean Rabe, of Louisburg, Mo., Mary Carrol and husband, Albert, of Petersburg, Ill. and Carol McGowan, of New Berlin, Ill.; two sons, Frank McGowan, of New Berlin, Ill. and Michael McGowan, of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Mary Louis Hansen, Carrie Ann Carrol and Rodney Cody; three great-grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew and Casandra Hansen; a sister, Josephine Hart, of Muscatine, and two nieces, Pauline Hamlin and Judith McKillip, both of Muscatine. Simon McGrew of Pasadena California accompanied the remains. Mr. McGrew will be remembered by many older residents of Muscatine, he having formerly lived in the city 12 years ago.

AGED MAN DIES ON EVE OF BIRTHDAY---West Liberty, Ia., April 29. – Lacking but two hours of attaining 82 years of age, A. M. McGuire, an aged and respected resident of this community, passed away at his home just north of West Liberty at 10 o’clock last night. He was born eighty-two years ago today in Cambria county, Pa. and he had been a resident of this vicinity since 1865.
Three years after coming to Iowa, Mr. McGuire was united in marriage to Miss Elmira Glenn, who survives him. To them were born four children, one of whom died in infancy. The three surviving children are Luke M. McGuire and Mrs. Ella Lane of West Liberty, and Mrs. Martha Stanbro, of Riceville, Ia. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, from the home. The services will be in charge of Rev. H. B. Scoles, of the Methodist Episcopal church. Internment will be made in Oakridge cemetery.

Augustine McGuire was born in Cambria Co., Penn., April 29, 1829, and died at his home near West Liberty April 28, 1911, from uremic poisoning, lacking less than two hours of being 82 years of age. He came to Iowa in 1865 and in 1867 [1868] was married to Elmira Glenn, who survives him. To them were born four children, Luke M. and Mrs. Ella Lane of West Liberty; Mrs. Martha Standbro of Riceville and a son who died in infancy. Besides these sorrowing ones he leaves two sisters and one brother in Pennsylvania also a number of nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He became ill Wednesday morning and sank to unconsciousness at noon, remaining in that condition until the end. He had always lived an upright life and was a kind and loving husband and father. He was born and reared in the Catholic faith, but had not been affiliated with that church for a number of years. .-----Submitter’s Note: His birth is recorded in Catholic Vital Records of Central Pennsylvania, Vol. 1, 1793 to 1839, Fr. Elmira Glenn was born March 5, 1847, Richland county, Ohio, and departed this life April 15, 1918, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Lane. She came to Iowa when she was 19 years of age and in 1868 was united in marriage with A. McGuire. To this union were born four children, the oldest of whom died in infancy. The three surviving are L. M. McGuire and Mrs. Ella Lane of West Liberty and Mrs. Martha Stanbro of Riceville. A son by a former marriage preceded her in death several years ago [Albert Smith]. She was born April 6, 1878 at Stockholm, Sweden. March 28, 1900 she married Luke McGuire in Cedar County. She was a member of the West Liberty Presbyterian church, Adah Rebekah Lodge, Past noble Grands and the Floraculture. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Emil Rasmussen of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Anna Parzybak of Wichita, Kan.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Snider funeral home with Rev. Charles McCracken in charge. Burial will be at the Oakridge cemetery.

West Liberty – Luke M. McGuire, 115 N. Elm, West Liberty, died today at the Hawker Nursing Home after a long illness. Mr. McGuire was born near West Liberty on April 2, 1863 [1873], son of Augustin and Elmira McGuire. He married Gertrude Insgren on March 28, 1900, at West Liberty. He was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of the community. Mr. McGuire attended the Presbyterian church. He was a 65-year member of the Odd Fellows and a member of the Ada Rebekah lodge. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Inez Rassmussen, Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Martha Stanbro, LeRoy, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Snider funeral home. Internment will be at Oakridge cemetery.

If Jesse McHenry, 78, missing ten days, met his death by drowning, he fell into Cedar river rather than into Pike Run, according to the theory advanced for his disappearance by R. J. Wiley, sheriff, this morning.--- Thirteen sticks of dynamite were exploded in the waters of Pike Run Friday by the sheriff, in unsuccessful efforts to bring to the surface the body of the aged missing man. Thirty men, from the western part of the county, who volunteered their services, worked the greater part of the day, dragging the bed of this stream, in an endeavor to find the body.--- The banks adjacent to the stream were searched for some distance in hopes that some part of the missing man’s clothing or his fishing tackle might be found, but to no avail.--- Relatives of the aged man offer a $25 reward for information leading to location of Mr. McHenry or his body. At the time of his disappearance he was attired in a black felt hat, grey woolen shirt, and grey striped overalls, he has a reddish gray mustache.--- Cedar river, only a quarter of a mile from Pike Run at one point, has not yet been searched, but it is probable that a party will drag this stream today.

Held fast by the limb of a submerged tree the badly decomposed body of Jesse McHenry, 78, was found in Cedar River, three miles below the Muscatine Western railroad bridge, about 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon.--- W. H. Wieskamp, finder of the body, who had been a member of the searching party which dragged the bed of Cedar River most of the day, refused to take the $25 reward offered by relatives for its recovery.--- R. J. Wiley, sheriff, was called, and he in turn notified W. S. Norton, county coroner. Both went to the spot where the body was rescued, and the latter decided that no inquest was necessary. The supposition is that the aged man became dizzy while fishing and fell from the bridge.--- He had been missing ten days, having departed from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nelse Christopherson, a week ago last Thursday to go fishing. When he failed to return that evening the Christopherson family supposed he had gone to the home of another daughter, Mrs. P. J. Walters, residing south of West Liberty. That he was not there was not discovered by the Christophersons until more than a week later.--- The body is not at the H. C. Synder undertaking parlors, Wes Liberty. Funeral arrangements are still indefinite.

Jesse B. McHenry was born near Wheeling, W. V., March 25, 1844 and met his death by drowning, May 12, 1921. He attained the age of 77 years, 1 month and 17 days. When a small boy he moved with his parents from the home in West Virginia to Sciota, Illinois, making the trip by boat and wagon. He resided there until his marriage to Mary Ellen Duncan on August 22, 1875.--- In the year 1902 he moved to Iowa and resided in Muscatine county until his death. Since the death of his wife he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Zoa Walter. He is survived by four daughters, sixteen grand children, two great grandchildren, and one brother of Macomb, Illinois. His wife and one son preceded him in death.

Mary Ellen Duncan McHenry was born November 22, 1853, at Sciato, Ill., and died December 29, 1910," at her home at Nichols, Ia., attaining the age of 57 years, 1 month and 7 days. The cause of her death was diabetes, she being ill but eleven days. --- At the age of 17 years she became a member of the Christian church, being a faithful worker to the end. On August 22, 1875, she was united in marriage to Jesse B. McHenry, and to them were born five children, four daughters and one son, the latter preceding the mother in Infancy. --- She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, four daughters. They being: Mrs. Zaa Walters, of Moscow, Ia.; Mrs. Iva Pearl Whaley, of Deadwood, S. D.; Mrs. Murney Anna Christofferson, of Nichols, Ia., and Mrs. Elnora Cochran, of Muscatine, Ia.; and five brothers, two sisters, fifteen grandchildren, three having gone to eternal rest.--- Mrs. McHenry was of a kind, loving disposition; to know her was to love her. She was a loving wife and a kind mother in time of sickness, always lending a helping hand. The going of her will be greatly mourned. --- The pall bearers were as follows: Josh Mills, Lila Adams, Bert Adams, Wilden Smith and Harry Smith. The funeral was conducted by H. Kirchner, of Nichols, and a short service held at the family residence by Rev. Richards, pastor of the M.E. church of Nichols Iowa. Mrs. Anna McIntire---------- West Liberty- Mrs. Anna McIntire 83, of West Liberty died at 10:53 a.m. today at Hershey Convalescent hospital. She was born Aug. 19, 1876 in Illinois, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hendricks. She was married to Elmer McIntire Dec. 13, 1893. Mrs. McIntire was a member of the Cedar Valley Methodist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Phillip Jarrett of West Liberty, Mrs. John Hendricks and Mrs. Hazel Geertz of Muscatine, five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, two brothers Leonard Hendricks of West Liberty and Ray Hendricks of Tucson Arizona, She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister. Services are pending at the Snider Funeral Home at West Liberty. Burial will be at Oak Ridge cemetery.---------- Note from June Welsch: she died April 20, 1959.

Elmer McIntire, Life Resident of County, Succumbs West Liberty ------ Elmer McIntire, age 57, died Sunday at his home three and a half miles southeast of West Liberty. He had been ill with heart disease and Bright's disease for the last four months.---Mr. McIntire had spent his entire life in Muscatine county, and died a quarter of a mile south of his birthplace, which was the homestead of his parents, Thomas and Mary Parry McIntire, who were natives of Ohio and Delaware, and pioneered here in the early 1850's. He is the third brother to die within 11 months.--- He was born in Goshen township, Dec. 13, 1868, and grew to manhood and received his education in the common schools. On Dec. 13, 1893, he married Miss Anna Hendricks, of West Liberty. Following their marriage they went to farming in the spring on the farm where he died, which was formerly a part of his father's acres.---He was a member of the Cedar Valley Methodist church and was interested in the community affairs.---Surviving, besides the widow, are three daughters, Mrs. Bert Jerrett (Jarrett), Mrs. John Hendricks, and Mrs. Louis Geertz, all of Cedar Valley; five grandchildren, Loren, Virgil, Earl and Kathleen Marie Jerrett; Shirley Jean and Kenneth R. Geertz; one brother, Caleb McIntire of West Liberty; one sister, Mrs. Hannah Brown of Muscatine, besides a number of nieces and nephews.---The body was taken to the S. C. Snider funeral home, which has charge of arrangements.---Services will be held Tuesday from the Cedar Valley church with the Rev. H. C. Druse, a brother-in-law, officiating and The Rev. Harry Strong, pastor, assisting. Burial will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Funeral rites for John McINTYRE, 47, whose death occurred suddenly Friday, were conducted today at the Fairbanks chapel. Dr. J. M. Kennedy, pastor of the First Presbyterian church had charge. Flower attendants included Mrs. Bernard Gerber, Mrs. Reuben Griesman and Mrs. Donald Wagg. West Liberty, Ia., March 22.--(Special.)--Thomas McIntire passed away at his home in Cedar Valley, three miles southeast of West Liberty, at 2:30 o'clock this morning. The cause of his death was dropsy. Mr. McIntire was born in Holmes county, Ohio, February 14, 1842, and came to Iowa in 1854. About 55 years ago he was married in Muscatine county to Miss Mary Peary, and for the past 35 years he and his wife have resided in Cedar Valley. He is survived by his wife and seven children, who are: John and Tom McIntire, residing at home, and Cale, Abram and Elmer McIntire, Mrs. O. E. Markham and Mrs. Melvin Brown, all residing near West Liberty. One sister, Mrs. Sarah Shoup, or Orville, O., also survives him.

Mrs. McIntyre, Life Resident of County, Dies---Mrs. Mattie Lee McIntyre, 72, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at her home, 314 West Seventh street, after a brief illness. The daughter of Aaron and Francis Askan Plumb, she was born Feb. 25, 1882, at West Liberty. She had been a resident of Muscatine county all of her life. She was married to Charles McIntyre Oct. 3, 1898, at Muscatine. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church. Surviving are the husband; five sons, Alvie, John and Virgil McIntyre, all of Muscatine, Charles McIntyre, Jr., Wilton and Russell McIntyre, Arizona; five daughters, Mrs. Richard Viner and Mrs. Willard Lanfier, both of Muscatine, Mrs. Ella Green, Rock Island, Mrs. Richard Land, Carbon Cliff, Ill., and Mrs. Walter Kell, Oakland, Calif.; 36 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son and a daughter. The body is at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals, and funeral services will be held in the Fairbanks chapel Monday. The Rev. J. Arthur Eveland, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

RUSSELL MCINTYRE----Funeral services for Russell McIntyre, 49, former Muscatine resident who died Feb. 5 at Phoenix, Ariz., were held Friday at the George M. Wittich Funeral Home. Rev. J. Arthur Eveland officiated. Mrs. George Holliday was the organist, and Mrs. Wayne Hetzler was the vocalist. Pallbearers were Don Flake, Sid Terry, John Phillips, Phillip Warren, Ray Van Zandt and Kenneth Terry. Interment was at Greenwood cemetery.
