Lucretia, wife of Wm. Epperly, of Muscatine county, Iowa, died at their residence, on the 18th day of June, 1871; aged 20 years, 11 months and 19 days. She embraced religion when a girl, and retained her profession to the last. Sister Epperly, was a member of the M. E. Church, during her life and death her sickness was somewhat protracted and exceedingly painful, which she endured with great fortitude and patience. But even this all ends at last In Death's sad, sweet embrace, We view the Providence that's past, And all its bearings trice. And would not call her back; to earth To mingle with its pain. But veil our own domestic hearth For her eternal gain The funeral was largely attended. May the sustaining grace of God, keep her husband and children in the path of virtue, and may their sun set as did hers; in a cloudless sky. Services by the writer. H. B. Potter.

2-Year Old Muscatine Boy Killed by Auto---- Kevin Robert, 2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Essex, Jr. was struck and killed by an automobile in front of the Essex home on highway 61, eight miles east of Muscatine at 4:35 p.m. Friday. GEORGE EVANS, PROPRIETOR OF NEWS STAND 15 YEARS, FOUND DEAD AT HIS HOME---- George EVANS, 54, proprietor of the EVANS News Stand, 209 East Third street, was found dead early this morning in the sun parlor at his home, 519 Park Avenue. Death was caused by a sudden heart attack, physicians said. --- Mr. EVANS had returned to his home from the news stand Tuesday evening. Other members of his family, who had retired, heard him moving through the house and noted that he entered the sun parlor, as was his habit, to read and smoke before retiring. Mrs. EVANS was awakened later by the tapping of a door, caused by wind, and arose to investigate. She entered the sun parlor, and noted Mr. EVANS sitting near a light. Calling to him she received no response, and notified Dr. T. I. Wigim, members of the family, and neighbors. ---- Dr. Wigim, who arrived at the home at 2:30, said that Mr. EVANS had been dead for approximately one hour. No inquest will be held.--- He had been in poor health for the past several years, but nothing unusual had been noticed in his condition recently and he was active about his home and business as usual Tuesday.---Known to Many.-- Mr. EVANS, known to everybody as just “George,” was a character hereabouts. He was the town’s greatest “friend.” He knew hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people, but it didn’t make any difference to George whether they were personal acquaintances or not. He always had a cheery greeting for every body that came along. The weather might be bad but it was never so to George. Conditions could detect it in George’s manner or appearance. Day in and day out, night after night, he was at his place on Third street just as he had been on Second street, always hustling, always busy and apparently always contented.---Obituary.--- Mr. EVANS was born Nov. 27, 1874. He came to Muscatine from Chicago 15 years ago, and has been in the news vending business here continuously since, conducting his business on Second street for a period of years, and moving to Third street several years ago.--- He married Mrs. Grace HARPER Dec. 27, 1925. Mrs. EVANS survives. Other survivors include one son, by a former marriage, Harry EVANS, Niles, Mich., one stepson, Bernard HARPER, Chicago, and one step-daughter, Miss Neva HARPER, at home.--- He was a member of the Masonic order and of the Elks.--- Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. J. B. Rendall, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, at the home Friday afternoon, the hour to be announced later. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. The Meyers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
