Early Muscatine County Pioneers often came up the Mississippi River to Muscatine or across the river from Illinois. Many came directly from overseas from places such as Germany, Ireland and England. Still others moved in from nearby counties such as Scott County, or from Dubuque County, upriver and settled on farms in the area.
