GEORGE RUCKLES George was one of the 4 Ruckles kids to go to Old Garfield, the others being Dewane, Joyce and Glenn. After graduating from High School George served 4 years in the United States Air Force being stationed in Texas and Ohio. He has 4 children and 4 grandchildren to be proud of.
While George was in the Air Force his job was a jet mechanic on the B-47 Jet Bomber for the Strategic Air Command. After service he became an electrician and is currently working out of the Union hall in Rock Island. He tells me that he is looking forward to retirement within the next three years.
During the summer months he likes to travel within 100 miles of Muscatine to attend air shows that are put on by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the United States Navy Blue Angles. George and I had a long talk one week-end that I was back in Muscatine. We talked about the time we hopped a freight train to go to the gravel pits for swimming and how we got into trouble that day. We had many things to talk about and I am sure that there will be other things to talk about at the Old Garfield reunion. George still resides in South-end on Wallace Street.
