ROGER TOMPKINS attended Old Garfield from 1941 thru 1947 and then on to MHS. His current occupation is that of Auto Broker in Cape Coral, Florida. He married May Cameron July 6, 1958 and they have 2 children; Roger II and Kim.
We asked for pictures of the Old Pine Castle and other south end stores and Roger says that he has no pictures but tells me that he has some memories of the Pine Castle. He worked there one summer part time but when he got done for the summer, he thought he owed the Havermann's more money than they owed him because he ate so much Ice Cream while he worked at the Pine Castle.
Roger carried papers in south end where he met a lot of nice people and got a good education about people in general. Roger tells about the time Rod Ferguson and himself were going to a Professional Motor-Cycle race in Newton, Iowa. He owned a 650 cc Triumph cycle that he raced. Having no car or truck to take the cycle to Newton, Roger and Rod tore the cycle down and loaded it in the back seat of Rod's "Henry J" car which was super small and drive to Newton to race it. They then put it back together in Newton and won $42.00 at the race. Going back to Muscatine feeling like we just won the Indianapolis "500". Good times with good friends. Roger says that he and Rod Ferguson are still friends after 40 plus years. He is looking forward to this years reunion.
