AURO LOCKWOOD LEMKAU Auro Lockwood married George Lemkau at the Musserville Methodist Church on Oregon St in South-end on February 12, 1939. She was a member of that church. She started to school in January of 1925, and because she was born after the starting date she was in the 2nd half class. She attended Garfield for 7 grades and went to Franklin for her 8th grade. She started to High School in January 1933 and graduated Dec 31, 1936 but did not receive her diploma until June of 1937 because of the split schooling during that time.
She worked as a stenographer at various places until World War II made her job redundant. Her husband was a plumber for Sanitary Plbg and Htg Co. until 1941 when they traveled the U. S. on Government jobs, then her husband went into the Army in 1943.
Their daughter Mary Louise Lemkau was born while her husband was away. She stayed home to raise her daughter. In March 1947 they moved to Tipton, Iowa and owned & Operated the Tipton Plumbing & Heating Company unto 1972 when they sold the business and bought a home and moved to Florida. They still live in Florida but occasionally travel back to Muscatine, Iowa. They have been married for 58 years. Her daughter Mary Louise is married and has given the Lemkaus four grandsons, 2 grand daughters (by a previous marriage) and 2 great grandsons. She mentions the principal at Old Garfield was Ms. Othmer; several other teachers that come to her mind are; Miss Mildred Cronin, Miss Ada Coleman. She is looking forward to the reunion to get re-aquainted with her old friends and classmates and meet others from Good Old Garfield.
