FLORINE JAMES HOPEWELL Raynard and Esther James presented the world with this young lady on January 22, 1927. They lived at 616 Wallace Street at the other end of the block from Old Garfield, which is gone now and has been replaced by newer houses. Her parents also presented this world a son, Robert (Bob) James. In 1942 they moved to 1101 Oregon Street where her parents owned and operated James grocery, which by the way was across the street from the South-end fire house. The store was the old Bill Havermann store.
She graduated from good ole Muskie High school in 1944. On March 8th 1946 she eloped to Davenport, Iowa to marry Patrick Hopewell who by the way had just returned from the war in Germany. Patrick was also a south-ender but attended St. Mary's School. They have 2 children, Daughter Patricia Rae Clark and Robert Patrick Hopewell. They were also blessed with 2 granddaughters, Kelli and Amy Hrdlicka.
She worked for the Bell Telephone for a short time. She is now retired from Central State Bank after 19 1/2 years. Patrick owned and operated Pat's TV sales and service for 34 years. After they both retired they sold everything and now have a double wide mobile home on the property of Harry Marx farm. Now they are farmers. They also have a cottage on the Mississippi River. They go to Zihuatanejo, Mexico for three winter months where they are God Parents to 3 beautiful children. She has many good memories at Old Garfield and says that we need more principals like Ms Othmer.
