JOYCE SCHMIDT HALLER Joyce Schmidt Haller is the daughter of Cara Karr & Bob Schmidt. Her mother attended Old Garfield from 1916 thru 1924 graduating from the 8th grade prior to marrying Bob. Joyce attended Old Garfield from 1941 thru 1948 and then on to High School. She married her old south-end sweet heart, Jesse Noral Haller and continued to live in South-end. They have two children, 1 boy & 1 girl. Those children gave her 6 grandchildren.
Most of us that went on to MHS will remember Joyce's dad, because he was the janitor at Old MHS. As fate would have it Joyce continued on the family tradition and became a janitor in the Muscatine School District and will retire in 1997 after more than 30 years. After Old Garfield was hit by the wrecking ball, Joyce's parents built their retirement home on the old school site. Joyce now lives across the alley from her parents retirement home. Joyce's little brother Donald Schmidt also attended Old Garfield and his biography is on this page. I remember the Schmidts as they lived next to my Grandmother on Stewart Road for many years.
