DELORES LAWSON GUHL

I don't know what kind of Icon for the type of work they did but her letter sort of gave me something they may remember. Delores Lawson married Ed Guhl in her senior year of High School in 1948 at East Waterloo High school. Everyone said that their marriage would not last and after 47 years and 7 children, 17 grandchild and 4 great grandchildren you might say they are still working on it.

Delores went to Garfield for 2 years from 1935-1941 the 1 year in Cedar Rapids being with her birth mother, then a year with her birth father in Waterloo, Iowa. The rest of her time was spent in Muscatine with her dear Aunt and Uncle Roy and Ella Law and their sons, Elwood, Merle and Emery Law. Those three boys became brothers to her. In about her senior year she again moved back to Waterloo to live with her father and step-mother.

She spent 21 years working for the Waterloo School District as a library associate. 17 of those years were in High Schools and the last four in a very low functioning elementary school - still in the library. Those last four years were challenging, but rewarding. By the time she retired, those kids were lining up to give her a hug. At first they didn't want hugs or contact. Maybe she helped them a little. Her husband was a printer all his life. She looks forward to seeing old friends and classmate and hopes meeting new friends.
