DEWAYNE J. BEHRENS

    Dewayne J. Behrens had a large bridge to cross. He attended Garfield from Sep 1931 thru 1938. He tried to continue his education only to have it interrupted by Uncle Sam drafting him before he finished High School. He did get his high school diploma after he returned from service. He then attended the University of Nebraska graduating with the class of 1952. He married Joan Kracht who is from Muscatine, IA in 1953 and have been married 44 years. He is now retired and spends most of his time volunteering. They like traveling to visit their children and for pleasure. They now live in Bettendorf, IA.

    DEWAYNE J BEHERNS attended Old Garfield from1931 thru 1937 and then on to MHS. He married Joan A Knracht March 1, 1953 and the following children: Barbara Behrens (Mehrens) 41; Cynthia Behrens (Thompson) 39 Randall 39; Karen Behrens (Thomforde) 39 and Micheal Behrens 31. Both Dewayne and Joan are retired. Dewayne has fond memories of Old Garfield. He still remembers hearing the old school bell ringing; playing marbles in the school yard while Ms Othmer officiating. The best marble player could go on to the city tournament. He also remembers the Spelling bees noting that Mary Rada was the city spelling champion and she was student from Old Garfield. He says that they were in the heart of the depression years, but in spite of that they were still happy. He is looking forward to this years reunion.
