1869 City Directory For Muscatine Iowa |
INTRODUCTORY OFFICE WESTERN PUBLISHING CO,
146 S. Water street, Chicago
FEBRUARY 16th,1869In presenting this, the first volume of HOLLAND'S DIRECTORY, to the citizens and business men of Muscatine, we feel some little pride in being able to furnish such a handsome and, we hope, reliable.book.
We have spared no pains or expense in Printing and Binding this work to insure ACCURACY and BEAUTY of appearance. We feel confident our patrons will be satisfied with our endeavors. A comparison with the former directories is asked. Multiplying the number of names by 4, the usual figure, we find the population amounts to 9983. Our census gives the population as 9762, which we believe is accurate; but non-residents and transients were not included in the latter figures.
With many thanks to the manufacturers and business men-----E. Klein,Esq., the Mayor, T. D. Smith,Esq., Joseph A. Green, Bridgmen, Kent & Co., R. M. Burnett, Esq., Beardsley & Mechling, Jerome Crocker, H. Lofland, J. A. Reuling, J. G. Evans, Col. W. B. Keeler, Barnhart Bros.& Witmer, proprietors of the Daily Courier, together with many others---who have kindly given us their countenance and patronage, and assuring all that we shall re-double our efforts on our next Directory.
We remain, Respectively,
WESTERN PUBLISHING COMPANY, Publishers
