PATTERSON CEMETERY
1660 Pleasant Prairie Road
Pleasant Prairie, Montpelier Township
Muscatine County, Iowa

Submitted by Patti Cook, April 24, 2016

This pioneer cemetery is located on privately held land, deep in the woods on the northwest corner of the property. One needs to ask permission to enter the property and get directions to the cemetery from the land owners.

Directions from Route 61: Take the Pleasant Prairie exit, turn south on Pleasant Prairie Road, a gravel road. Travel about 2 miles. The house will be on the right. One will need the permission from the land owner and direction as to how to get to the cemetery.

Some information about this cemetery was recorded in the WPA records during the 1930's. The Cook's recently started to clear the brush and do some probing in the cemetery ground. Pieces of gravestones were found in an area beginning at the northwest corner of their property, seven feet from the north side fence, then extending south following the west side fence one hundred forty seven feet. The width of the burial ground seemed to be about twenty two feet.

Dropped Dead. – We learned just before going to press today, that Wm. Patterson, living in Montpelier township, about 13 miles northeast of the city, dropped dead, this morning, while engaged in some work near his farm. His death is attributed to heart disease. He was aged about 60 years and leaves a wife and one child. He was one of the oldest settlers of the county, and a man generally esteemed.

William's place of burial was not given. Possibly he was buried in the cemetery on his property. His probate record was filed for record at the Muscatine County Court House.
